176 <br /> <br />June 27, 1995 <br /> <br /> To keep this pro]ect on schedule, it is necessary for you <br />to approve this plan and direct TRT to proceed with the final <br />design phase of the project. Portsmouth's current obligation <br />through the design and bidding phase is a 20% match of funds or <br />$35,000. This amount is available from the General Fund <br />operating budget. <br /> <br /> The Director of Public Works recommends approval of the <br />conceptual plan, and approval to proceed with the design phase. <br />I concur with the Director of Public Works and recommend your <br />approval." <br /> <br />Leslie R. French, III, 208 Glasgow Street, spoke i~ support of <br />the project. <br /> <br />Keith Toler, Director of Tourism, provided tourism information. <br /> <br />Gordan Wheatley, Asst. Executive Director, PRHA, spoke in <br />support of the project. <br /> <br />Betty Burnell, Director of Museums, spoke in support of the <br />project. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to <br />grant approval of the conceptual design plans for the inlet and <br />ferry docking facility, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Hawks, to <br />grant permission to proceed with the final design phase, and <br />was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />95-308 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />an ordinance to appropriate $497,000 from the Capital <br />Improvements Fund for renovation to the second floor of the <br />Police Headquarters building for the new General District <br />Courtroom, and a motion to award the contract to The Taf Group. <br /> <br /> a. Ordinance to appropriate $497,000 from the Capital <br />Improvements Fund for renovation to the second floor of Police <br />Headquarters. <br /> <br />b. Motion to award the contract to The Tar Group. <br /> <br /> "A third courtroom is required for the General District <br />Court on the second floor of 711 Crawford Street. Demolition <br />of the Detective's Bureau and the required asbestos removal <br />will be completed in July. Funds for the renovation have been <br />included in the 1994-95 Capital Improvement Plan for this <br />purpose. <br /> <br /> Bids were received on June 13, 1995 for the construction <br />of the new courtroom. The bids were competitive and favorable <br />with today's construction market (see Attachment No. 1). The <br />total anticipated pro]ect costs are calculated as follows: <br /> <br />Construction Contract (The Taf Group) <br />General Services (Electrical) <br />Data Services and Communications <br />Seating (Pews) <br />Contract Achninistration and Inspection <br />Contingencies <br /> <br />$380,800 <br />$ 10,000 <br />$ 30,000 <br />$ 16,000 <br />$ 20,000 <br />$ 40,200 <br /> <br />TOTAL ANTICIPATED PROJECT COST <br /> <br />$497,000 <br /> <br /> <br />
