Forman to be issued a duplicate check to amount of $12.~O, <br />~37253, which check was lost by her, was referred to the Finance Com~ <br /> <br /> A petition 'of certain lawyers in the City to h~ve the City Ordinances codified, was refer- <br />red to the Finance -Committee. <br /> <br /> The following resolutions which were adopted by the Washington Ward Citizens League at <br />their regular meeting held January ltth, 1927, were read: <br /> <br /> '"WHEREAS, in the month of September, 1~26, the Virgi~ia Electric and Power Company, under <br />a contract ~ndan_ordinance of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, took overa~d beech to operate <br />all Bus li~es in the said Oity a~d, <br /> <br /> ~q~EREAS, W~shington Ward, of the Oity of Portsmouth, before that time had been adequately <br />served by bus lines with ~ick transportation to the down towm section of the City and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, since the takin~ over of the bus lines by the Virginia Electric ~d Power Com- <br />pany, all busses were taken cfm of the Port Norfolk Route and the entire Washington Ward of <br />the Oity of Portsmouth, was imadequately served by street cars and, <br /> <br /> NHEREAS, the service instead of improving, has been gradually getting worse so that it <br />frequently takes from o~e-half to one hour to come from Port Norfolk to the down town section, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in ~he conmract with ~he 0ity of Portsmouth, the right was reserved to the City <br />to require such additional services from the Virginia Elecmrie ~d Power Company, as would be <br />necessary to adequately serve the needs of the people of ~ny secmion of the Oimy, mhd <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the needs o~ the people of Washingmon Ward are nom now, nor have they been, since <br />the entering into the contract above mentioned, adequate±y served by the Virginia Electric and <br />Power 0ompany. <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Washington Ward Citizen,s League, that the City <br />0oun¢i± be notified of the poor tr~usportaticn facilities provided for that section of the City, <br />and that the said 0ity Council be and it is hereby requested to require of the Virginia Electric <br />~nd Power Company, a service to that eection of the City, contained in the boundaries of Wash- <br />ington Ward in compliance with the terms of ~D~ir con~ract, and if necessary, automobile busses <br />be placed in such service so that adequate transportation f~cilities may be obtained by the <br />residents of that Ward. <br /> <br /> Be it resolved further, ~hat a copy of these resolutions be sent by the Secretary to the <br />City Oouncil of the City of Portsmouth and spread upon the minutes of the League and given to <br />the public press." <br /> <br /> <br />
