<br /> On motion, the privilege of the fl&or was granted to Mr. J. L. Tho~s, President of the
<br />said League, who spoke on the resolutions.

<br /> On motion of Hr. White, the resolutions were referred To the City Man~ger for proper and
<br />prompt action, and to report on same to the next meeting of Council.

<br /> The following petition and resolution, presented by the Aetna Realty Corporation, were
<br />read:

<br />Gentlemen:--

<br /> The undersigned, the Aetna Realty Corporation of this City, respectDally
<br />represents that it is the owner of eertai~ property at Swimming Point in the City of Ports-
<br />mouth, which is platted as ,Elizabeth Place, a~d duly recorded in N~p. Book l, page 42, in the
<br />Office of the Clerk of the Court of Fa~stings for the City of Portsmouth; that in m~king said
<br />plat your petitioner cut through the center a streel known as 'Elizabeth Place,, which extends
<br />from Guthrie's ~ to the water front, ~nd that sine9 putting s~id Plat to re~ord it has found
<br />that for its ow~ use and for better valuation of the property,_it is necessary for them to have
<br />as much of said property .front on Washington Street as possible. Therefore, they are desirous
<br />of vacating and closing that part of the street called 'Elizabeth Place' which lles West of the
<br />West side of Washington Street, as it would give_ them an additional frontage of Fifty-one
<br />Feet and Eight inches (51' 8") on Washington Street, which said frontage is more valuable to
<br />them than having their lots f~cing on Washington Street and extending baek to Guthrie,s Lane,
<br />which is more valuable for building purposes and other improvements.

<br /> Your petitioner represents that none of said lots in that section have been
<br />sold to any person, and, therefore, there a~e no persoD~ who desire to enter said property
<br />through this part of Elizabeth Place, West of WashiD~mon Street.

<br /> YOUR PETITIONER, T~REFORE, PRAYS that your Honorable.Body will pass a
<br />solution closing that portion of the street E~own as ,EiLzabeth Place' whzch lies West of W~sh-
<br />ington street, so that your petitioner may utilize their i~ll frontage on Washington Street.

<br /> On motion of Mr. M~yo, the privilege of the fleer w~s granted to thouGh airman of the Ninth
<br />Ward 0ivi~ League and others.
<br /> Mr. J. E. Turner sp~ke. Ee stated that the School Board has taken three grades from the
<br />Prentis P~rk School and that the Ninth Ward citizens are asking the Oouncil for relief.
