July~25, -1995 <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 38 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY <br />OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (~988) BY'AMENDING SECTION 38-40[A) (1) <br />THEREOF, PERTAINING TO WATER, SEWERS AND SEWAGE DISPOSAL." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />95-353 Letter from the Acting City Manager recommending <br />adoption of a resolution requesting that the Virginia <br />Department of Transportation establish an Urban Highway Project <br />for the improvement of the entrance to the U. S. Navy Scott <br />Center Annex. <br /> <br /> "The U. S. Navy desires to construct a new entrance off of <br />George Washington Highway into the Scott Center Annex. The <br />associated minor widening of George Washington Highway to <br />create a new turn lane requires the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation to create a project for this purpose. In order <br />for the Department of Transportation to begin work on this <br />project, the attached resolution must be adopted. The project <br />involves no monetary expenditure by either the City of <br />Portsmouth or the Virginia Department of Transportation. <br /> <br /> The Director of Public Works recommends your adoption of <br />the resolution for improvements to George Washington Highway. <br />I concur with the Director of Public Works and recommend your <br />approval of this item." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Robinett, <br />adopt the following resolution, and was adopted by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br />to <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION ESTABLISH AN URBAN HIGHWAY PROJECT FOR THE <br />IMPROVEMENT OF THE ENTRANCE TO THE U.S. NAVY SCOTT CENTER <br />ANNEX. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation construction allocation procedures, it Ks <br />necessary that a request by Council resolution be made in order <br />that the Department program an urban highway project in the <br />City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Councll of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, requests the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation to establish a project for the improvement of <br />the entrance to the U.S. Navy Scott Center Annex from George <br />Washington Highway and including the eastern portion of <br />Bellport Avenue." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />95-354 - Letter from the Acting City Manager recommending <br />adoption of a resolution to convey a parcel of land to the <br />Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority in the Regional <br />Jail site area. <br /> <br /> "Title examination by Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing <br />Authority (PRHA) for acquisitions of properties located within <br />the Regional Jail Authority site, indicate that there is a <br />parcel of land which belongs to the City of Portsmouth. <br />Acquisition by PRHA of this property is required in order to <br />complete the creation of this site. <br /> <br /> I, therefore, recommend adoption of this resolution which <br />will give the City Manager authority to convey this property to <br />PRHA." <br /> <br /> <br />
