the <br /> <br /> 203 <br /> July 25, 1995 <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to adopt <br />following ordinance and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 24 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY <br /> VIRGINIA {1988) BY ADDING SECTIONS 24-260, 24-261 <br /> THERETO· PERTAINING TO LOITERING IN PUBLIC PLACES." <br /> <br />Clemons, Griffin, Hawks· Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />None <br /> <br />1 - Letter from the Acting City Manager recommending <br /> of an ordinance to ~unend Section 35-13(a) of the City <br />pertaining to taxation. <br /> <br /> "The City Treasurer has encountered some difficulties with <br /> business owners with regard to the interpretation of the <br /> "preceding tax year" in Section 35-13 of the City Code. <br /> section pertains to the issuance of a business license <br /> all delinquent personal property taxes and machinery and <br /> taxes have been paid. It is therefore desirable to <br /> ~te the phrase "preceding tax year" so as to clarify the <br />of the code so that there is no misunderstanding that <br />delinquent taxes are to be paid prior to the issuance of the <br /> 35 license. <br /> <br />I hereby recommend your adoption of this code amendment." <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Hawks· and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to adopt <br /> ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 35 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY <br /> , VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTION 35-13(A) <br /> PERTAINING TO TAXATION." <br /> <br />Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />None <br /> <br />2 - Letter from the Acting City Manager recommending <br /> of an ordinance to aanend Chapter 38 of the City Code by <br /> Section 38-40(a) (1), pertaining to water, sewers and <br /> disposal. ~ <br /> <br /> "Portsmouth's current charge for residential water service <br /> that the Department of Public Utilities will install <br />tap into the main water line, install the water service <br />· meter connection, the meter box and meter for a fixed fee <br />500. In some new developments, it is advantageous for the <br /> )er to install the tap, service line, meter connection and <br /> when they are installing the new water mains, streets <br />In such cases, the current Code does not allow the <br />loper to receive any credit against the current fixed fee of <br /> even though they have done work that the Public Utility <br /> would normally have to perform. <br /> <br /> The Director of Public Utilities has requested that City <br /> Section 38-40 (a) (1) be amended to allow developers who <br /> the tap, service line, meter connection and meter box be <br /> to pay a lower connection fee of $200. This lower fee <br /> recognize the work that they have performed.
