<br />Gentlemen:~

<br /> You recently referred to me certain orders of the Court relieving certain taxes
<br />which I desire to report on as follows:
<br />
<br />1. Order of Oourt on petition of J. S. Hathaway.
<br />
<br /> This order relieves one-third of the taxes assessed against Frances B. Jacobs on lots
<br />182-183-184 W. Hamilton Avenue, for the yeasts 1921 to 1927 inclusive. Lot 184 was owned by
<br />and assessed to the South Hill Manufacturing Oompany and the t~xes were paid thereon. The
<br />following amounts should be relieved in the office of the City Collector: 1921 $3.00; 1922
<br />$3.00; 1~23 $3.00; 192~ $~.20; 1925 $4.50; 1926 $5.00 and 1927 $5.~0 together with interest
<br />and penalties thereon.
<br />
<br />2. Order of Court on petition of Beacon Light Lodge of Elks.
<br />
<br /> The.courtheld this lodg~ was exempt from taxation Under the State law. Taxes for 1926
<br />were relxeved amounting to $562.50 and should be taken from the City Collector's books~
<br />
<br />Order of Oourt on petition of L. T. Oaplan.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Oaplan was assessed twice for lot 160 High Street. Taxes for 1921 amounting to $7.50,
<br />.1922 amounting to $7.50 and 1925 amounting to $11.25 should be relieved.
<br />
<br /> 4. Order of court relieving certain taxes assessed against ~illiam O. Lindsay on property
<br />306 Crawford Street. Mr. Lindsay held a life-estate in this property and upon the sale thereof
<br />the court held that all taxes which were due for the years 1925 could not be collected from
<br />the sale price of the property which was sold in a suit. Taxes for 1925, 1926, and 1927 were
<br />declared to be a'lien upon the fund and were paid. This was due to the amendment of the city
<br />charter obtained in 192~o The following taxes were relieved and should be taken from the
<br />City Oollector,s books: 1919 $112.50; 1920 $112.50; 1921 $235.20; 1922 $2~5.20; 192~ $235.20;
<br />and 1924 $235.20.

<br /> Mr. Mayo moved to concur in the Oity ~ttorne~ recommendations. The motion was adopted.

<br /> The reports of the City Treasurer, City Collector, and Oity Auditor, which had been ~oprov-
<br />ed by the City ~anager, were received and were ordered to be filed.

<br />NEW BUSINESS
<br />
<br /> A bill was received from Lloyd E; Warren, attorney-at-law, to ~mount of $2~.OO, for de-
<br />fending a prisoner by Order of Court.
<br /> On motion of Mr. Oast, a special appropriation of $2~.OO was allowed to pay said bill. sp~app.
<br /> Bills were received from J. Shirley Hope, State Game ~axden, to amount of $87.50 and $152.50l
<br />for Services rendered in destroying tagless dogs.
<br /> On motion of Mr. White, the Treasurer was authorized to pay said bills, out of funds
<br />on hand from collection of Dog T~xes.
