<br /> Mr. Naupin moved that Oouncil concur in the recommendation of the Msnager that the
<br /> Simking Fund be requested to pay the sum of $9,900.00 for the purpose of retiring s~id
<br /> amount of the $139,900.00 Bonds due January 1, 193~.

<br /> At a recent meetin~ of the Portsmouth Public
<br />ofreport $461.00. showed that in the failure of the State Bank, the
<br />
<br />Library Association, the tre~surer,s
<br />Association had sustained a loss
<br />
<br /> The above ~mount having been appropriated for the purchase of books, it
<br />readily be seen that such a loss will seriously affect the u~efullness of the Public Library-
<br />already operating at a minLmum cosZ and being ssareel~abl~ ~t any time to supply the
<br />necessary books for the patrons of the library, i~ is obvious how urgently the association
<br />needs the help of the Oity ~ouncil in meeting this financial loss. Therefore, we earnestly
<br />request you gentlemen to aid us. in this emergency; to reimburse the Library Association
<br />to the full e~tent of the ~bove loss or, failing to give, us this .amount, to give us sUCh
<br />an smount as is possible.

<br /> Reference to the reports furnished ~ou by the Library Association will show
<br />you the importance Of the Public Library, and its value to the ~eople o- thms City and
