December 23, 1930 <br /> <br /> The following report was read <br /> <br />Hon. City Council, <br />Portsmouth,~Virginia. <br /> <br />from the City Attorney: <br /> <br /> "Decmm~e~ 23, <br /> <br />193o. <br /> <br />Gentlemen: <br /> <br /> At your last~.meetingyou referre~ to me an order of court relieving B. A. Nemo from <br />~he <br /> payment of tax~s for the years 1921 to 1925, inclusive, on lots numbers Three Hundred <br />and Eight (30~? ana Three Hundred ~d Ten (310) on the plat of the Prentis Place Land Oompany. <br />The facts in ~his case were tha~ a building was assessed on each of the lots by the assessors <br />in 1920 while the lots have always been vacant Therefore, taxes should be relieved a~ <br />follows: ' <br /> <br />1921 .............................. $ 33.60 <br />1922 ............................... 33.60 <br />1923 .... --. 33.60 <br />19~5 ............................... ~.oo <br /> <br /> $170.~O <br />All of the above taxes are charged in the name of William <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Maupin, <br /> <br /> Henry Taylor. <br /> <br /> Tours very truly, <br /> <br />R. 0. BAROLA¥, 0ity Attorney." <br />the recommendation of the Oity Attorney was concurred <br /> <br /> The daily report of the Accounting Department for the day ended December 22, 1930, was <br /> received and was ordered to be filed. <br /> <br /> The Oity Attorney presented the f~llowing ordinance: <br /> An Ordinance t~ repeal an Ordinance <br /> providing for the issuance of a note or notes of the City of Portsmouth in the total sum of <br /> Two Hundred and Twenty-five Thousand Dollars maturing six monzhs after date adopted by'the <br /> Council of the 0ity of Portsmouth, Virginia, on ~he ninth day of December, 1930. <br /> <br /> On.motion of Mr. Ogg~ the ordinance was p/aced on first reading. <br /> Communications were read from %he. Western State Hospital with regard to the City of <br />Portsmouth paying $113.~0 expenses for sending Mrs. Cornelia Hutto to Florida, as per.Section <br />1030 of the Code. <br /> On motion, the communications were referred to the Oity~Attorney. <br /> <br /> NE~ BUSINESS <br /> A card was received from the U. S. S. Eittery wishing the Council a Merry 'Xmas and a <br />very Happy New Year. . <br /> On motion, the Olerk was instructed to acknowledge Sm~]~e arid thank the men for sending <br />the card. <br /> <br /> A card was 'also received from Portsmouth Post No. 993, Veterans of Foreign Wars, wishing <br /> Oounoil a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. <br /> On motion, the Clerk was instructed to acknowledge and send thanks for same. <br /> An application Was reCeived-from MrS. Beuiah j. Irvinglto be refunded $~.30 p~id by her <br /> as fine and ~o~ts in the~P~lice Court of the City of Portsmouth for violation of~the traffic <br />ordinances of the City of'Portsm0u~ ^~ ~ ~ ..... Brinson: <br /> I am in receipt of your letter written to my 0ommission, and your invi- <br />thetati°nbeautificationt° visit ~o;Uro~CitYyourfOrcity.the purpose of making the necessary survey ~n connection with <br /> <br /> I have a rather exmensive program, but realizing the importance and <br />your need of this work, I will endeavor to be in your city for this purpose at the earliest <br />opportunity. I should be glad if you have any date in mind as to when you would like ~this <br />matter undertaken if you will acquaint me. <br /> <br />Assuring you of our hearty cooperation in any development you may wish <br /> <br /> <br />
