<br /> The following communication was read from the City M~uager:

<br />the sale of the recent authorized notes to the amount of $225,000. to the American National
<br />Bauk, at 5% rate, interest payable at maturity.#
<br /> On motion, the communication was ordered to be filed.

<br /> I am submitting herewith the following:
<br /> (!) An amendment to the 'Bus Ordinance,' which I request be placed on its first
<br />reading. The purpose of this ordinance is to permit a re-routi~ of the buses-in Park View
<br />in order that the territory now served by the Park View street car line may be served by buses.
<br /> ~2) An-amendment %~ the Street R~ilway ~ranohise w~th a contract attached. I
<br /> request that this ordinance be also placed on its first reading. The purpose of this ordinance
<br /> and contract is to permit %he discontinuance of the park View Street Railway'line, and to re-
<br /> lieve the Virginia Electric and Power Company from replacing the stree~ paving after the removal
<br /> of its tracks. The-Company is to pay the City $33,900 and the City is to repair the streets.
<br /> The terms of the contract are very similar to the previous contract made with the s~me company.
<br /> (3) A resolution providing for the a~vertisement of the street r~ilway amendment
<br /> and the contract. In order to amend the franchise it is necessary that this proposed ordinance
<br /> and contract be advertised ten days. The advertisement can be running in the newspaper between
<br /> the first and second readings of the ordinance. I request that the resolution be passed.

<br /> A BESOLUTION to authorize ~ud direct the City Clerk of the City of Portsmouth to advertise
<br /> for ten days in the "Portsmouth Star" the formof o~dinanoe and' form of contract attached here-
<br /> t~ as a part hereof, the effect of which is to consent'to the ab~_ndonment and discontinuance
<br /> by Virginia Electric andPower Company of the street railway line known as "Ps~rk View Line;"
<br /> to amend and re-ordain "Exhibit A" attached to and ma~e a part of the ordinance adopted by
<br /> the Oouncil of the City of Portsmouth on August 27, 1926, under which said company operates
<br /> the street railway system in said City, and to specify the work to be done and payments to be
<br /> m~de by said Company in connection with the discontinuance and abandonment of said line, and
<br /> relievi~ and ~ischarging said Company of ~ny duty or obligation to dQ or perform any .other
<br /> work with respect to said ~bandoned locations than that required by said form of contract.

<br /> a s~reet railway or =allways, ~ogether with all curves, turn-outs, connections, l~le lines,
<br /> overhead and underground wires, cables, conduits and a~pliancesto be used in the operation
<br /> -thereof or in connection therewith upon certain of the streets, alleys and public places of
<br /> the Cmty of Portsmouth, and the right to ~se said streets, alleys aud public places hereinafter
<br /> mentioned for such purposes."
<br /> to provide for the abandonment and discontinuance of motor bus transportation
<br /> rest between Hatton Street and ~ebster Avenue, and on Webster Avenue between B
<br /> and ~pr~tley Streets and to amend "Exhibit-A" attached to and made a part of an ordinance,
<br /> entitled:
<br /> "AN ORDINANCE to regaxlate motor bus passenger transportation in the City of Ports-
<br /> mouth."
<br /> On m~tion of Mr. ~tewart, the =eSotution~a~id ordinances were placed on first reading
<br /> and laid on the table until the next meeting of ~ounoil.
<br /> The communication from policemen Jas. Randolph, T. H.R~vere, amd C.'W. White, with regard
<br /> to predicament arising from the recent suit of K. A. Esleeckagainst them, accasioned by the
<br /> search of The Cavalier ~hoppe, located oh F~gh street near Court; which had. been laid on the
<br /> table ~til this meeting of Council, was continued on the table.
