Aorit l~th, 1931. De&r Gentlemen: I find that I have been paying taxes on a lot that' does not belong to me. Lot No. 40 N. Crafo'rd Place. Will you please release me from paying this tax for 1930 and refund to me the taxes I have oayed the four years preceeding. "Portsmouth, Va., April l, 1931; Gentlemen: 'I hereby respectfully make ~oplication for retirement from active work with the City; I am now seventy-four years old, mud have been employed by the City of Portsmouth for 46 years;' Respectfully, W. G. Gray? on motion of Mr. Ogg, same was referred to the City Manager; Bill of J. Shirley Hope~ Game Warden, for services rendered in destroying 67 tagless dogs at $2~50 each - ~lb?.50. On motion of Mr'. Mayo the Treasurer was autho- rized to pay same from fund on hand from the collection of dog tax;' The following letter was read: "Portsmouth, Va., April 14, 1931. Hon. Gentlemen: We are enclosing herewith a statement of delineuent' taxes covering the property ~lO0~ Parker Street which is shown as having been omftted fc~ the yeasts 192~,_ 1928, 192~ and 1930 in the name of R. A. Bulloch; This omission is due to the fact that Mr. Bullooh was assessed for the same amount at $100~ Maupin Street which he did not own nor upon which there are any improvements and it seems to be an error only in the name of the street rather than in actual omission in paying taxes~ We will appreciate your investigating this m~tter and relieve the estate of Ro A. April y, 1931; Gentlemen: The undersigned g~oup of persons interested in the operation of the playground located on Mt. Vernon Avenue, smd in the part of the city better kno~n as Mount Hermon, respectfully ask that your honorable body employ a supervisor for the com- ing season, that is between the closing of the public schools and the opening for the term of 1931 -!932;~ This playground has been very useful to the parents living nes~v it and helpful in preventing delinquency among the children of the neighborhood.
