December 12~ ,1995 <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Hawks, 'and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to <br />transfer $477,000 for maintenance of streets and related <br />facilities, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />95-555 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />a motion to transfer $42,375 from the Grants Contingency <br />Account for the Virginia Alternative Fuels Revolving Fund <br />Program. <br /> <br /> "I am pleased to inform you that the Virginia Department <br />of Transportation (VDOT) has awarded Portsmouth $42,375 through <br />the Virginia Alternative Fuels Revolving Fund Program. The <br />funds are to be used to assist in the purchase of vehicles <br />dedicated to using natural gas, and retrofitting current <br />vehicles for bi-fuel use. <br /> <br /> While actual cost savings are unknown at this time, the <br />City of Portsmouth, in cooperation with the Portsmouth Public <br />School System, and the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing <br />Authority will collect data to determine costs, operation <br />efficiency, and e~virornnental effects of the program. <br /> <br /> The total award is a matching grant of $42,375. The <br />required local match will be through in-kind contributions and <br />the cost of vehicles already purchased in the FY 95/96 budget. <br /> <br /> I, therefore, recommend approval of the funds and the <br />transfer of $42,375 from the Grants Contingency Account to <br />support this program." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Clemons, to <br />transfer $42,375 to support the Virginia Alternative Fuels <br />Revolving Fund Progrsan, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> - NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />95-556 Mr. Ciemons offered the following nominations for <br />appointments to the following Boards and Commissions: <br /> <br />Planning Commission <br /> <br />William H. Hargrove, III, to be appointed to fill an unexpired <br />term ending December 31, 1996, replacing Charles P. Anderson. <br /> <br />Library Board <br /> <br />Pearline Harmon to be reappointed to fill a three year term <br />ending November 30, 1998. <br /> <br />Cable Television Commission <br /> <br />Dr. Max King to be reappointed to fill a three year term ending <br />November 30, 1998. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Hawks, to close <br />the nominations, and there being no further nominations, the <br />above nominations were adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />95-557 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to adopt <br />the following resolution, and was adopted by the following <br />vote: <br /> <br /> <br />
