"At your last me~eting you referred to me the fallowing matters:
(1) 'Request ok the Gity Gcllector that taxes charged against the
property at 2216-18 High Street in the name of George Bosman, for
the year 1920~, amounting to $17o50, be relieved, as this is a
double assessment and taxes on this property ~ave already been
paid by Mr. Archibald 0gg.' I find that this property was doubly
assessed for the year 1920 and that the assessment of George Bcs-
man was erroneous and the sum of $17.50 should be relieved. The
correct assessment has been paid.
(2) 'List of the Commissioner of Revenue of the tax corrections
made by him.~ I have examined this list of correct'ions made by
the Oommissioner of the Revenue and the same appears to be cor-
rect and have been passed upon by the court. The Oity Collector
should be given proper credit for the same'."

Notion of Mr. Fox to concur in the City Attorney,~ recommendation was adopted.

- UNFINISHED BUSINESS -
funds to pay Nansemond County taxes against our water properties ~in said county, laid on ta-
ble at last reEular meeting until this meeting, was taken up.

Notion of Er. Brooks to appropriate $3,855.00 for Highways construction on Oourt
and Fourth Sts., said amount to be repaid the Oity by State Highway Department at rate of
$500.00 per mile far 7.71 miles of highways in 0ity, laid on table ~t last meeting until this
meeting, was taken up and motion of Mr. Hutohins to make an appropnat, ion of $3,855.00 far
said purpose was adopted, and by the following vote:

Ayes: Brooks, Fox, Hutchins, Mayo, Moore, Oast, 0gg -

Nays: None.

The following letter from the Oity Manager, read at meeting of April lSth, which to-
gether with an appropriation for same was laid en table until this meeting, was taken up and
read:

"Our street sweeoer was purchased from the Elgin Sweeper Oompany the first part of
1928 and is now in need of-extensive repairs. It has besn in continuous use more than five
years. Repair costs tc this machine last year were $1,558.09.
In view of ~e high cost of repairs_to this machine last year and the estimated
~ost of ~ore than one ~usand dollars for this year, I have been handling with the Elgin
~weeper Gompany to see zf the repair costs coul~ not be r?duced. The Elgin Sweeper 0omDany
have agreed to furnish a new street sweeoer, whzoh is an zmproved model over the one we~ now
have on which actual tests have shown, c~n be operated much cheaper than the model we have,
a cost of $6,500.00, a~d to allow $500.00 for our sweeper. Also to accept payments for the
balance 0f'$6,000.00 as follows: -

$1,000.00 to be paid on delivery of the new sweeper.
~,500.00 to be paid on January 15th, 193~.
2,500.00 te be paid on January 15th, 1935,

The deferred payments are to be without interest charges.
I recommend that we accept this offer as our sweeper is worn so that it is no
longer economical to eperate. The investigation made shows that a saving in repairs and operat-
ing costs of at least one thousand dollars per year can be effected with the new sweeper, eom-
pared with the one we now have; therefore, no additional appropriatien will be required this
year to take care cf the one thousand dollar payment te be made on delivery cf the new sweeper,
as this can be taken from repairs in this year~s budget."

Notion of Mr. Mayo to approve the purchase of a new Elgin sweeper and to appro-
priate $6,500.00 far same and to authorize the City Manager te give two notes for $~,500.00
each, which will bea~ no interest, one to be due Ja.nuary 15th, 193~ and one to be due January
15~h, 1935, as part payment, the Elgin Company ~o gave $500.00 for old sweeper, was adopted,
and by the following vets:

Ayes: B~ooks, Fox, Hutchins, Mayo, Moore, Cast, Ogg - 7.

Nays: None.
