G5 <br /> <br /> ?33- <br /> <br /> Th~ School Board at its meeting on September I, directed the Finance Committee <br />ef the School Board to ask your approval of two greatly needed building projects in the <br />Portsmouth Schools. <br /> 1. A~ annex tO the Briggs School, estimated cost for building and <br /> necessary add£tional land $15,OO0. <br /> 2. A hea~ing plant and library room at the Cooke-Street School <br /> estimated cost $1,500,O0. <br /> The Board is requesting that the City ~ounoil approve these projects in order <br />that application may be made to the N.R.A. for a donation and loan under the terms cf the <br />N.I.R.A., the construction of- these projects to be dependent upon the grsmt of such donation <br />and loan. <br /> The Finance Committee wishes to have a conference with your Honorable body at an <br />early date to be fixed by you in order that the urgent need of these projects and sundry <br />ether details may be set forth and discussed fully. <br /> <br /> Respectfully SUbmitted, <br /> <br /> T.A. Tillman <br /> Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth,Va. <br /> September 12, 1933. <br /> <br />Mr. L.C.Brinson, <br />Oity Clerk, <br />Portsmouth, Va. <br /> <br />Dear Sir: <br /> Will you kindly take up w lth the Council of the City of Portsmouth on September <br />12th, 1933, the matter of a refund in the amount of $10.50 for an unused city automobile li- <br />cense purchased on September 6th, !933. <br /> On September 6th, my wife purchased Portsmouth Oity License No. 3222. On the <br />same date (September 6th) I sold my car. The same morning I tried to return the license for <br />refund, but was i~ormed that the refund could not be made without the approval of the Oity <br />C cunt il. <br /> My car had not been operated in the City ef Portsmouth from the time of my ar- <br />rest for violation of the Oity Tax Bill to the date of sale of the car. Brinson, <br />City Clerk, <br />Portsmouth, Va. <br /> <br />read: <br /> <br />Dear Sir: <br /> <br /> I would appreciate your reading the following communicatio~ ~e your Council at <br />its next regular meeting: <br /> The League of Virginia Municipalities will hold its twenty-eighth annual conven- <br />tion in Danville on ~ednesday and Thursday, September 2~th an~ 28th, 1933. Round trip rail- <br />road fares of a fare a~d one-fifth for the whole trip have been secured and the necessary <br />railroad certificates may be obtained by writing to this elf ice. I sincerely hope that a <br />large delegation from your municipality may attend these important sessions. Included in the <br />matters to be discussed are welfare relief, group and pension imsuranoe, the highway problem, <br />the federal public w~rks pr~gram~pers~ommet ~a~hministration, bond issue administration and mu- <br />nicipal safety work. Im addition there will be importamt committee reports including especi- <br />a~lly a report of our Legislative Committee which has been working throughout the year on a <br />comprehensive legislative program to be considered on behalf of the cities and towns of the <br /> <br /> <br />
