"AN 0RI~INANOEEELATING TO THE MANUFAU%~3P~E~ BOTTLING, SALE AND <br />DISPOSITIONOFB~ER, 5AGEEBEER~ ALE',PORTER, WINE, SIMILAR FERMENTED <br />MALTOR V~OUS LIQUOR, AND FRUITJUIOE, OONTAINING ONE-HALF OF ONE PER <br />OENT~0RMORE 0F:ALOOHO5 BY VOLUME, AND' NOTNORE THAN THREE AND T~0- <br />TENTHS PER OENTUM OF AL~0HOL BY W~IGHT; TO' PROVIDE FOR LIOENSING AND <br />TAXING MANUFAOT~RERS, BOTTLERS, WHOLESALERS AND RETAILERS OF SUOH <br />BEVERAGES BY THE OITY OF PORTSMOUTH; AND TO IMPOSE PENALTIES FOR THE <br />VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANOEo" <br /> <br />In this connection, the following letter from theNanager was read: <br /> <br /> "The caption of the ordinance relating to the manufacture, sale and disposition <br />of beer, wine, etc., which was placed on first reading at meeting on August 22m~, should be <br />amended by eliminating the following wo~ds in the first line: "~o regulate and control" and <br />in lieu of-these words insert the following words ,relating Zo", which would make the first <br />line of the caption read,AN ORDINANOE Re%ating to the Manufacture"; This amendment is neces- <br />sary in order that the ordinance will conform with the State Law. <br /> I recommend that the following license fees be inserted in this ordinance and <br />charged manufacturers, bottlers, wholesalers and retailers of beer, wine, etc., from the ef- <br />fective date of this ordinance to April 30th, 1934: <br /> <br />Manufacturer - $300.00 <br />Bottler - 1~5.00 <br />Wholesaler - lY5.00 <br />Distributor - 1~5.00 <br />Retailer - 17.50." <br /> <br />Motion of Nr. 0gg that the amendment offered by the Mauager be adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brooks offered an amendment to the amendment to make the licemee as follows: <br />manufacturers $500.00, wholesalers $100.00, bottlers $150.00, distributors $100.00, retailers, <br />who hold a soft drink license $15.00. Those who do not hold a soft drink license, $~1.00. <br />Licenses to he issued annually and pro-rated. Mr. B~ooks' amendment was lost and by the fei- <br />lowing vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Brooks, Hutchins, 0gg - 3. <br /> <br />Nays:- Fox, Mayo, Moore, Oast- 4.' <br /> <br />Vote being taken on Mr. 0gg'S amendment, same was adopted, and by the following <br /> <br />vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Fox, Mayo, Moore, Oast, 0gg - 5 <br /> <br />Nays: ~rooks, HutChins - 2. <br /> <br /> MOtion of Mr. Mayo to adol~tthe ordinance asamended, was lost and by the following <br />vote: (ReGuiri~g 3/$ vote to adopt) <br /> <br />Ayes: Fox, Mayo, Moore, O~st, Ogg - 5 <br /> <br />Nays: Brooks, Hutchins - 2. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Hutchins to reconsider the vote just taken, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr, Brooke to amend by making the amounts for licenses named in the <br />dinance, ann~al, and.~at the licenses be pro-rated, was !est, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Brooks, Hutchins, Ogg- 3. <br /> <br /> Nays: Fox, Mayo, Moore, Oast- ~. <br /> <br />OD- <br /> <br /> - Motion of Mr. Mayo tha~ the emergency clause be s~ticken out and that the ordi- <br />nance be adopted, was carried, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Fox, Mayo, Moore, Oast, Ogg - 5. <br /> <br />Nays: Brooks, Hutchins - 2. <br /> <br /> The Superintendent of Oemeteries reported the sale of the following lot in the <br />Oak Grove Gemetery, June 14th, 1933: <br /> <br />'W.G.
