"At your meeting held on Sentember 26, 1933, you referred to me a letter
from The Woman's Olub of Portsmouth, requesting that it be relieved of taxes for the year
1933 on the property assessed to. Mrs. Jeanette Ball and Hattie B. Minter.
The-Woman S 01un o~ Portsmouth purchased this property the latter part of
the year 1932 and settlement was made on January 2, 1933. The 01cb states in its letter
that it is a oharit~ole and civic organization. I examined its charter and there is no~ a
great dealofdifference between it and organiza'tions commonly known as lodges, which do not
pay. taxes to the city. The Oommissioner of the Revenue has also investigated the matter
and finds that the clUbs in other cities of the state have been relieved of taxes. We h~ve,
therefore, come to the conclusion that this club is entitled to be relieved from taxation
and that the taxes charged against this property for the year 1933 in the sum of $124.55
should be relieved.,

Dear Sirs:
In 1930 in the assessment made by R.A.Robertson and F.N. Bilisoly, I was
assessed on 1Ct ~l Block 40~ plat of the Prentis Park Oorporatie~, with a building assessed
at $2,000.00 and on lot ~2 Lu Block ~O, plat of Prentis Park Corporation, with a building as-
sessed at $1,200.O0. This property is situate at the southwest corner of Lincoln Street and
Air Line Avenue. The second ~uilding did not belong to me, as my building is built on two
lots numbers I and 2. The bumlding assessed for $1,2oo.0o is the property of Mr. L.A.Brough-
ton. I have paid the taxes on this additional building for the years 1931~and 1932, and it
is assessed for the year 1933 against me. I, therefore, ask your honorable body to reimburse
me for the amount of the taxes for the years 1931 and 1932 in the smount of $31.$0 for each
~3ear and I also ask that the tax assessed against me for the year 19~3 in the amount of
