December 26th. 1955. <br /> <br /> The following ordinance leid on table November 14th, was taken up and read: <br /> "AN OREINANCE OF BUDGET APPROPRIATIONS OF THE.0ITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br /> VIRGINIA, FOR THE YEAR 1934~" <br /> Motion of Mr. Ogg to make an additional appropriation of $3,000.00 to the budget <br />for the Kings~Daughters Hospital, and to add $6,500.00 for Tax assessment and to reduce pen- <br />sions by $660.00, and to reduce Trash and Garbage $400.00, was adopted, and by the following <br />vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Brooks, Fox, Hutchins, Mayo, Moore, Oast, Ogg - 7. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Fox to add $450.00 to Mater Budget was adopted, and by the follow- <br /> <br />ing vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes$ <br /> Nays: None. <br /> <br /> Motion of Er. Brooks to add $5,?34.65 to the <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Brooks, Hutchins, Mayo- <br /> Nays'. Fox,· Moore, 0ast, Ogg - <br /> <br /> On motion of Er. 0gg, the Budget ordinance was adopSed as <br />following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Fox, Mayo, Moore, Oast, 0gg - 5- <br /> Nays: Brooks, Hutchir~ ~ 2. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Moore to rsconsidsr <br />adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Brooks, Fox, Hutchins, <br /> Nays: None. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brooks <br />of the provisions of the <br />days and that they would <br /> <br />Brooks, Fox, HutQhins, ~yo, Moore, Oast, Ogg - 7. <br /> <br /> School Appropriation was lost and <br /> <br />amended, and by the <br /> <br />the vote just taken on budget ordinance was <br />Mayo, Moore, Oast, 0gg - 7. <br /> <br />and Mr. Hutehins both stated that while they did not agree with some <br />budget, they did not desire to hold up the City's business for thirty <br />vote for same, so that it could become operatiue January 1st. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Mayo to add the emergency <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Brocks, Fox, Hutchins, <br />Nays: -None. <br /> <br /> clause to the budget was adopted, and <br /> Mayo, Moore, 0asr, Ogg - 7. <br /> <br />the Budget Ordinance was adopted, as amended, and by the <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. <br />following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Brooks, Fox, Hutchins, Mayo, Moore, 0ast, 0gg - Y. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> <br /> Report of the City Collector of. adjustments and credits on water bills for Octo- <br />ber and November, was received and ordered filed. <br /> <br />- NEW BUSI~S~ - <br /> <br />The following letter was read and referred to the City Attorney: <br /> <br /> "Among the tax statements sent to my father, James Monroe Broughton, of Ocean <br />View, for his portsmouth property, was the enclosed tax statement for personal property of <br />Jam~s Marion Broughton. I did not notice that this statement was no~ for my father until after <br />I had paid it, along with the taxes on his property and it was called to my attention l~ my fa- <br />ther. I went to the 0ity Oollecter's office on several occasions to have my ~onej refunded <br />without success. Lasz week Mr. Parker, the Oity Oollector,~told ms that the mat~r of this re- <br />fund would have to come thru you, the City~ Council. <br /> H~oing that this matter will have your prom.~t attention and that I will receive <br />my refund at an early date, I am, <br /> Yours respectfully, <br /> <br />Mrs. Charles A.
