February ~2thl '~q~. <br /> <br /> Privilege of the floor was granted to anyone interested. Mr. Robert F. McMur- <br />ran spoke in regard to the letter. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Stewart to grant the request and presentation be made at first <br />meeting of Gouncil in March, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Report of ~.P. Jordan and Company for auditing the Gity Books £or the year 1935 <br />was received and ordered filed. <br /> <br /> Motion to allow bill of Mr. Jordan for $6~90.00 for said audit was adopted, and <br />by the following vote: ' <br /> <br />Ayes: Brooks, Fox, Hutchins, Oast, Parrish, Stewart <br />Nays: None. <br /> <br /> The following letter was read and referred to the 1935 budget: <br /> <br /> ~The Board of Lady Managers of the Home for Rhe Agsd~ hereby ~espectfulty re- <br />quest the restoration of the small amount which was taken zrom us by the lO~ cut, which would <br />be fifteen dollars more per month than we are allowed at present.~ <br /> Our collections have been greatly~reduoed and having twenty-three old ladies <br />the largest number we have ever had, we t~st that you may see your way clear to grant this <br />request at this time when we are actually in need of assistance. <br /> <br />Very respectfully, <br /> <br />$2.50 each, <br /> <br /> Bill of J. Shirley Hope, <br />for $255.00, was read. <br /> <br />The Board of Lady Managers, <br /> Mrs. Jno. S. Harwood, Cot. Sec." <br /> <br />State Game Warden, for destroying iO~ tagless <br /> <br />dogs at <br /> <br /> On motion, the Treasurer was aut'horized to pay s~me from funds in her hands <br />from collect.ion of Dog Taxes. <br /> <br />The ~ollowing letter was read: <br /> <br /> "An invitation is extended to the ~ouncil and the Git y Manager to attend a con- <br />ference of the Hampton Roads Sewage Disposal Commission in the Gouncil Ghamber of the City of <br />Nor£olk, Wednesday~ February 13th, 2 P.M. <br /> This conference is called for the purpose of a hearing on the <br />lution and its disposal in the Hampton Roads. <br /> Invitations have been extended to Norfolk, Portsmouth, NewPort <br />South Norfolk and all co~uties in the Hampton Roads area. <br /> As this city is vitally concerned in this <br />quested to have the entire membership of <br />fersnce. <br /> <br /> ~estion of poi- <br /> News, Hsmpton, <br /> <br /> important matter, it is urgently <br />the Gounci! and the City Manager present at this con- <br /> <br /> Very sineerely~yours, <br /> <br /> The Ham~rzton Roads Sewage Disposal Commission <br /> <br />adopted. <br /> <br />Motion that the ~ounci~ <br /> <br /> J.M. I will appre - <br /> <br />ciate any help that you may give me in this matter. <br /> Thanking you in advance, <br /> Yours, <br /> J.H. <br /> <br />Butler, 1517 Leckie 0ity., <br /> on its first <br /> <br />reading: <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Hutchins that the following ordinance be placed <br /> <br />"AN :ORDINANGE TO ~gND AIfDREOP~AIN SEOTION 63 OF TEE <br />LICENSE TAX ORDINANOE FOR THE YE~ BEGINNING NAY 1st, 1934." <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, the Portsmouth Council of School Leag~es, because of one of its <br />purposes - namely to develop between educators and the general public such united effort as <br />will secure for every child the highest advantages - desire that our High School be an ac - <br />credited member of the South Eastern Association, and <br /> WHE~LEAS, our School Board has asked for a sufficient sum of money for the <br />purpose o£ employing extra teachers necessary to regain our ~ormer Standing, and <br /> WHEREAS, I - Because of the over-crowded condition in our High School - 2 - <br />Because of the increasing demand for Junior High Schools in progressive Communities - 3 - Be- <br />cause the building o~ schools are acceptable F.E.R.A. projects, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED, that we, members of the Portsmouth Council of School Leagues, <br />in meeting assembled, Jan. !8,~ 1935, respectfully urge the members o£ the Oity Oouncil of <br /> <br /> <br />
