lst-"That parcel of land, with its appurtenances, situated at #16 Middle
Portsmouth, Va., was advertised for sale at Public Auction, 12 o'clock noon, Saturday, Novem-
ber 9th, 1935, in front of the Court House.
I, Sophie C. Jonak, was the only person sufficiently interested to bid on
this property', my highest bid being $380.00. The City bid in the property for $~00.00. Imme-
diately afte~ the auction, Mr. Barclay, City Attorney, asked what I would offer for the pro -
perry. I offered the amount of my bid $380.O0, .which offer he accepted subject to confirmation.
~ ~o~.understand that Mr. Barcl~ay has received a subsequent offer of $600.00
for the property ou ~ne party who is offering $600.00 intends to destroy the building, thereby
cutting down the revenue to the City.
This property has been idle for a number of years bringing in no revenue to
the City. It was my intention to rebuild same to establis~ a home for immediate occupancy,plac-
ing the property back on a taxpaying basis within ninety daysj if oossibl~. For that reason,I
ask ~hat the City consider ~tt~ me.~v? t~e property for $450.0b, and although that will be
'less than the $o00.00 bid, ~ne ~m~y wmz± ~er~ve considerably more revenue by allowing me to
establish a home.
I will thank you to kindly present this matter to the Honorable City Council
for their consideration.

Yours truly,
