November 26th. ~q~. <br /> <br />the auditorium and then petition the Council for refund, was adopted. <br /> The following letter was read, and on motio~ referred to the City Attorney: <br /> "In 1932, the Forest Park Land Company removed a building #515~17 Godwin <br />and since that time we were relieved of taxes. When property was assessed in 193k the ~sses <br />sore have placed a value of $500,00 on a building that does not exis~ and in order that we may <br />be able to pay our taxes promptly we will appreciate if you will relieve us of this erroneous <br />assessment. Yours very respectfully, <br /> <br /> Forest Pa~ Land Company, Inc., <br />-BF Leslie T. Fox, Sec. & Tress." <br /> <br /> The following letter was read-; <br /> <br /> "The Junior Woman's ~ud Lions Cl~os of Portsmouth, as you know, sponsored a <br />dance on Wednesday evening, November 13th, at the City Auditorium,. for the benefit of the <br />charity funds Of these organizations. <br /> As it was a very rainy night, which kept many from attending and so reduced <br />the income to t~e extent that there is a deficit from this affair, I a~, on behalf of these <br />two cl'~os, writing to request-that you order the ci~arge for the use of the auditorium refunded <br />so that this deficit may be reduced. <br /> Assuring you of our appreciation of your kind consideration of this request, <br />I am, Yours very truly, <br /> <br />T. B. Ghiselin, Secretar~y, <br /> Lions Club of Portsmouth.~ <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Hutchins $o refund $30.00 was adopted. <br /> <br /> The report of W.P. Jordan & Company for auditing ferry books and accounts <br />for month of October, was received and o~iered filed. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brooks stated that he ~ad investigated the contract made August lOth, 1910 <br />with the V~rgtnia Electric & POWer Gompany, in which they agreed to pay the Ci2y $500.00 and <br />2~% cf the gross receipts oer annum for a lighting franchise to thirty years. He stated that <br />they had oaid that up to a~d through 1919 and have only pa!d one half' of one per cent since <br />the above date, and his motion thst a committee of three be appointed to investigate this con- <br />tract, was adopted. -Messrs. $.B. Moore, J. Alden Oast and J. T. Hanvey were appointed on said <br />committee. <br /> <br />On motion adjourn~d. <br /> <br />Approved <br /> <br />President. <br /> <br />City Clerk. <br /> <br />(*At that time, the Norfolk & Portsmou~_.
