<br />The following letter was read:

<br /> I begets i~orm you that ~u error has-been-~made somewhere, for in the years
<br />1931-32 and 33, I did not own anything in the line of household furniture. I lived with my
<br />mother-in-law,-in the s~me residence I now live. In the spring of 1934, I bought the fu~ni-
<br />ture and she returned to her home in Ohio.
<br /> Gentlemen, I~m asking you to relieve me ofthe tax indebtedness held against
<br />me for these three years and leave me perfect~y willing to pay the taxes for the years 193~-
<br />35 and 36. ' -
<br /> I want to-paY my taxes as it is my duty, but I don'$ feel Justified in paying
<br />an indebtedness cther than my own.

<br /> ~On J~ne the fourth, the American Legion Auxiliary, Portsmouth Unit #3Y, spon-
<br />sored an entertainment in the City Auditorium, the proceeds of which are to be used for chari-
<br />ty work Ln our clinic. We paid to ~.. Davis, the sum of Twenty-five dollare($25.OO) for use of
<br />the auditori~mm. We understand that the charge for the City auditorium, when the proceeds are
<br />to be used for charity, is usually returned to the organization sponsoring the entertainment.
<br /> If this is the policy of the City Co~ucil in such m~tters, we do hereby re ~
<br />quest that the sum of Twenty-five~dollars ($25.00) be returned to us.

<br />required to pay a personal property tax '~
<br /> which I did not owe. I wish to state that I do not
<br />own any personal property such as household furniture a~d fixtures, as I have always boarded
<br />or lived ~n furnished rooms.
<br /> I have never lived at 1308 Pa~er Ave., therefore, I have paid the taxes of
<br />same other O.F.. Parker. I respectfully request that the amount of $2.~6 be refunded.
