April 2~6_th. lqMS.

2. Petition of Mfs.Elizabeth Corwine to be relieved of certain personal taxes.
It appears that the taxes assessed against this party were o~pied from previous
years. I am informed that Mrs. Corwine broke up house-keeping and resided with her brother-
in-law. The Deputy 0ommissioner of the Revenue
agrees with me that she should be relieved of
the following taxes: 1935-$2.65, 1935- $2.65, 1936 $2.65, and 1931- $2.65.

3. Petition of Miss Essie Lee Bittle, to be relieve~ of certain property taxes.
According to the letter of M{ss Bittle, she is properly assessed for the years
1933 and 1937. The previous years were assessed against her father. She has the privilege
of paying her taxes without paying those assessed against her father. '
$. Petition_of j.- T. Garner .concerning personal prope~y taxes.
Prom the best information whi:h I have been able to obtain Mr. Garner disposed of
his farniture in 1931, and he should be relieved of personal property taxes for the years
I9301932 andt° 1937,1931 andam°untingMr. Garnert° $15.52,has paidwiththeintereStsame., and penalties . He was prooerly~ assessed for

I~otio~ of Mr. Pox to concur in the Attorney, s recommendation, was adopted.

3rd - HIn connection with the request of Mrs. Georgeana A. Webb for the re -
lief of taxes, referred to me at your last meeting, I find that Mrs. Webb is the owner of one
lot at the southwes~ corner of Washington s-nd Columbia Sts. The assessor
have assessed her with two lots 'm~t~ ~e ~ ~+ ...... s of 1920 appear to
lot of ~he same frontage then ~ll2~T2 Zi ~"~£ ~. ~a valua~zon of $1600.00. The adjoining
corner was assessed to° ' ~oo~===~ ~ e. ri.naa&, was assessed at $1150.00. The southeast
Mrs. Indie E. Halstead, at $1350.00. The lot adjoining the Halstead
proper~y was assessed to Isaac Pass at $1150.00o I~ therefore appears that the laud in both
blocks was intended to have been assessed the same. It appears to me that Mrs. Webb should
have been assessed for $1350.00 instead of $1600o00 for the years 1921, 1922, 1923, 1925 and
1925, with an error of $250.00 in her assessment.
The assessors of 1925 assess.ed the Webb land at $1500,00, the Hall
land at $10eO.O0 and the Malstead land at $1000.00, the Priedman (or Pass) land at $1150.,
and the Troy land at $1100. It appears to me td~at Mrs. Webb should have had a land assessment
of $1250.00 and that there was an error of $250.00.
The assessors of 1930 and 1935 as~s.essed the Webb land at $1790.00,
the-Hall land at $810.00; the Hatstead land at $1250.00; tne Priendman (or Pass) land at
$1050.00, and M. A. Troy in the block with Halstead and Friendman at $1050.00, showing a high~
er assessment in the later block. Using the same differential for the corner, Mrs. Webb should
have bean assessed for $1000.00. The~e was therefore an error of $790.00 in her assessment for
~he yea~s 1931 tc 1938, inclusive.
Mrs. Georgeanna A. ~Vebb, u~der the policy which has heretofore been
adopted by the City Council is entitled to be refunded the following taxes erroneously charged
against her.

Year Erroneous Value Tax

Penalty Interest Total

1921 $ 250.O0 $ 5'25 $ 5.25
1922 250.00 5.25
5.25
19~ ~5o.o0 5.~5
19~ 50.00 5.~5 5.25
192~ 250.00 5.62 5.~5
192~ ~5o.oo 6.~5 5.6~
6.25
1927 250.00 6.75
1929 250.00 6.62 $ .33 $ 1.SS 8.80
1930 250.00 6.62 .3
1931 790.00 20.R~ 1.0~ 2.82 9.87
5.60 ~7.58
193~ 790.00 ~o.9~ 3.95 ~.8o ~9.~9
1933 79o..oo ~o.9~ 3..95 ~.8o ~9.69
193~ 79o.oo ~o.9~ 3.95 5.o~

She is

Total $ 181.80

entitled to have relieved the following:

Tax

Erroneous Value

Total

193~ $ 790.00 $ 20.93 $ 20.93
193~ 790,00 20.93 2o.93
193~ 790.00 19.75 19.75
1938 790~00 19.75 .. 19.7~

Total $ 80.36
The amount of the refund should be applied to the payment of he~ taxes for
the years 19~5 to 193~ inclusive."

The Oity Eomager suggested that this ma~$er go over until the next meeting
of ~he Council, in order that he and theOity Attorney might -have an opportunity to view the
premises.
Motion that the matter be referred backto t.heOity M~mager and Oity Attorney,
as suggested, was adopted.

sented.
f~s in

Bill 'of J.
