Fox offered the following resolution, which was adopted: <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, the accounts and records of the office of <br />A. E. Parker, City Collector, were audited by L. C. Brinson, City <br />Clerk and Auditor, as of February 17th, 1939, and according to the <br />report of the City Clerk and Auditor, were found correct, as shown <br />by the becks of the City; amd <br /> WHEREAS, it appears that it is the duty of the City <br />Council to have examined yearly, the list of umeollected taxes, <br />and te credit the Collector such taxes, as in their opinion, could <br />not have been collected with due diligence; an~ <br /> WHEREAS, it appears ~hat A. E. Parker~ City Collector, <br />should be credited with all ~axes levied in 1938, remaining uneol - <br />looted on the lyth day of Eebrmary, 1939, the amount of which is <br />shown in said report cf L. C. Brinson, City Clerk & Auditor. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Oouncil of the <br />City of Portsmouth, that A. E. Parker,- City Collec~o~, be credited <br />with all uncolzected taxes levied in 1938, remaining in his office <br />on February 17th, 1939, and that he be relieved of responsibility <br />for not having collected ~he same, but nothLug herein contained, <br />shall be construed as relieving the paymen~ of said taxes by the <br />persons owing the same, or in relieving A. E. Parker, City Collec- <br />tor, from his responsibility for any sums so collected." <br /> <br /> The following letter, which was presented by the City Manager at the last <br />meeting, was taken up and read: <br /> <br /> "The City's contribution to the Sewing ProJec~ for the next six months, will <br />amount to $3,817.00. <br /> It is necessary that we appropriate $2~000,O0 of this amount, at once, in <br />order'to keep the project going." <br /> <br /> Motion of ~_~r. Fox to concur in the Na~ager~s recommendation, ~ud to appropri- <br />ate $2,000.00 for said pmrpose, was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Leigh, Fox, Grimes, Howard, Hutchins, Lawrence, Warren, <br /> Weiseman, Wilson <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />The following ~rdinamce, laid on table at last meeting, was ~aken mp and read: <br /> <br /> "A~ ORDINANCE TO PROHiBIT THE SALE OF W~E AND BEER BETWEEN <br />THE HOURS OF TWELVE O'CLOCK POST MERIDIAN OF EACH SATURDAY AND SIX <br />O'CLOCK ANTE MERIDIAN OF ~0H MONDAY, AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR <br />THE VIOLATION THEREOF., <br /> <br /> privilege cf the floor was granted anyone interested. <br /> <br /> M.L.
