'~We, the undersigned property o~mers, and/or voters in the City of Portsmouth,
respectfully present this petition to the City Council for due consideration.
Regarding the proposed playground to be located in the Harrison Ward on the
south side of the Prentis Park School bordered by Airline Avenue, Piedmon~ Ave., and Jefferson
St. We heartily object to this playground and list below our reasons for the objection.

i - Value of property will be decreased~

2 - Discourages potential home builders who Would build homes that would be a credit
to the City.

3 - Such playgrounds have not been successful in the_cast and have been a_lo~d~ ,~ to
become z~n down and finally abandoned. Examole: Playground located in Port Norfolk on Broad
St. near the A.C.L. Railroad tracks.

Disturbing of the peace at night by w_hat is commonly called ~petting Parties".

5 - Will cause increase in traffic on streets bordering the park, which are in a
terrible condition now, and this will be a constant source of dust, making home eon¢&tions
worse than they normally were.

6
upkeep of

~?

Additional cost to the 0ity ~.~en such money could be used for improvement to and
streets.

Not necessary t~have this playground for children.

8 Probably will eventually become ball park such as the Wythe St. playground
flood lights as no playground as been successful up to the present time.
