<br />Minutes of-re~alar meeting held May 28th, were road and approved.
<br />
<br />The following communications from tho City Manager were read~
<br />
<br /> let - "We received a telegram from General Waller~ ~tatlng that the C~vernor
<br />had ordered that civilians would not be allowed in the Armory, until fUrther advised; also re-
<br />questing ~hat the City fu~sh a police officer to guard the Armory. This has been done."
<br />
<br />On motion ordered filed.
<br />
<br /> 2nd - "At 12:00 o'clock today~ the Merchsmts a Farmers Bank sold at auction
<br />tD~r~y-five acres adjoining the City Park, and the Olive Brsncrz Cemetery.
<br /> Our oresen~ City Park* is very much overcrowded. All of our other cem-
<br />eteries are filled up_ and OliVe Branch Cemetery is filling fast. It will be only a few years
<br />before we will be compelled to exlo_and this cemetery or open s new one elsewhere,
<br /> After going out and viewing the thirty-five acres~ the Recreation
<br />Park Committee of the Council consisting of the Mayor~ Councilmen ~arren~ Hutchins,Wilson~
<br />C-rimes~ Weiseman and Howard.~ authorized the Manager to bid on the property, at auction~ sub -
<br />~ect to the approval of the Council~ The City~ through the Manager, bid the prooerty in at
<br />~i0~000.00.
<br /> I request an appropriation of $10,O00,00 be out on its first reading
<br />at this meeting.~

<br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins ~o concur in t he Manager's recommendation and to place
<br />an appropriation of $10,000.00 for said purpose, on its first reading, was adopted. Mr. Fox
<br />voting ~Naye' .
<br />
<br /> 3rd - ~We have.formulated a summer recreation program for the colored chil-
<br />dren, on the same- basis per capita as for the ~hite children.
<br /> We will h~.ve five playgrounds, a supervisor and one or more attsn
<br />dants at each playground. The total cost of this pro~est, for labor and equipment, will be
<br />$!,800.00.
<br /> I reques~ that an appropriation of'$!,800~00 be placed on its first
<br />reading, at this meeting."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Fox to concur in the Manager's recommendation and ~o place an
<br /> appropriation of $1,800.OO for said purpose~ on its_first reading, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 4th ~ "I have a complain~ from the physicians of the City sgainst renewal
<br /> of physicist's license to S.W. Phillips.
<br /> Both sides have been notified to appear before the Council, at this
<br /> time."
<br />
<br /> Privilege of floor was granted Er~ Phillips, w~ho requested that a physician'~
<br />license be issued to him, and Dr. Moncure, represenZing the State-Medical Board~ pr~testing
<br />the grantir~ of such license.
<br />
<br /> On motion o f Mr. Hutchins, the ma~er was. referred to the City Attornmy.

<br /> Privilege of floor was granted Mr. Robert Po~ers, Attorney for Mr. Jones~ Er.
<br />R.L. Jones, Mr.W.H.W. Cassell and others, ~no spoke in favor of granting Mr. Jones such permit
<br />and Mr. Wiggins and others, who opposed such permit,

<br /> Motion of Mr. Lawrence to refer to the City 2~anager, City Attorney and Mr.
<br />Warren, ~th power to act~ was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 6th ~ ~We have received numerous complaints about renewal of A.B.C, li
<br />cerise at corner Oak & Highland Aves.
<br /> Both sides have been notified that they could be heard by the Coun~
<br />cil~ at this meeting."

<br /> Privilege of the floor was granted Mr~ & Mrs. Lefcoe~ who disslaimed any
<br />disorderly conduct in the place of business.
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Howard to refer to ~he 01ty Manager for further investigation,
<br />was adopted~
<br />
<br /> An appropriation of ~30,00Oo00 to pay for land purchased in Glensheallah,
<br />laid on table at last meeting, was taken up.
<br />
<br /> P~.vit~ge of the floor was granted Miss Ellen Lash, who spoke against said
<br />appropriation.
