May 14~ 1996 <br /> <br /> "I am pleased to announce the award of a grant to the <br />Arts Center of the Portsmouth Museums from the Business <br />Consortium for Arts Support. This grant in the amount of <br />$28,000 will fund expenses related art exhibitions scheduled <br />for the next year, further enhancing the cultural environment <br />of our city. <br /> <br /> Since its incorporation, the Business Consortium for <br />Arts Support has awarded over $4 million to arts organization <br />throughout the Hampton Roads area, with nearly $200,000 <br />granted to the Arts Center of the Portsmouth Museums. This <br />organization is committed to the furtherance of the arts and <br />provides funds to area organizations to assist with such <br />endeavors. Attached you will find examples of past exhibits <br />funded by this grant since 1992. <br /> <br /> I recommend approval of a motion transferring funds in <br /> the amount of $28,000 from the Grants Contingency Account." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Robinett, to <br />transfer $28,000 for art exhibitions in 1996 and 1997, and <br />was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />96-180 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a motion authorizing the City Manager to execute a license <br />agreement granting Suffolk permission to cross Portsmouth's <br />watershed property on Craig Drive with a 4" sewage force <br />main. <br /> <br /> "The City of Suffolk has requested permission to cross <br />Portsmouth's watershed property on Craig Drive with a <br />sewage force main. This crossing is part of Suffolk's <br />project to install a city sewage system in their Westhaven <br />Lakes Subdivision. This city system will replace individual <br />home septic tank systems which are prone to failure. <br /> Portsmouth's Director of Public Utilities recommends <br />your approval as this project will help protect the water <br />quality of Portsmouth's Lake Meade Reservoir. <br /> <br /> I concur, and recommend Council's approval of a motion <br />authorizing me to execute the proper license agreement with <br />Suffolk." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to <br />authorize the execution of a license agreement granting <br />Suffolk permission to cross Portsmouth's watershed property <br />on Craig Drive, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> - NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br />96-181 - Mr. Clemons offered the following nominations for <br />appointments to the following Boards and Commissions: <br /> <br />Co~ssion of Architectural Review - Cradock/Olde <br />Towne/Truxton <br /> <br />AubreY Brock to be appointed to fill a three year term ending <br />April 30, 1999, replacing Darrick Dewitt. <br /> <br /> <br />
