14, 1996 <br /> <br />* CITY MANAGER'S REPORT * <br /> <br />96-175 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a motion to transfer $100,000 from the Emergency Budget <br />Contingency for the City Jail. <br /> <br /> "The Sheriff has requested that an additional $100,00'0 <br />be provided to pay for the costs of prisoner meals, medical <br />services, and laundry services in the City Jail. <br /> <br /> The Sheriff, as the legal custodian of prisoners <br />confined in the City Jail, is responsible for the well being <br />of the inmates. This includes providing adequate meals, <br />medical and laundry services to the inmates. The Sheriff has <br />indicated a need for an additional $32,500 in his Provisions <br /> Jail line item, $65,500 in his Medical Services line item, <br />and $2,000 in his Laundry Services line item for the <br />remainder of thi~ fiscal year. <br /> <br /> I concur with the Sheriff's request and recommend that <br />the City Council favorably consider a motion to transfer a <br />total of $100,000 from the Emergency Budget Contingency for <br />the line items as listed above." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Robinett, to <br />transfer $100,000 for various City Jail expenses, and was <br />adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />96-176 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of an ordinance to appropriate $120,000 from the Capital <br />Improvements Fund for the design and fabrication of exhibits <br />for the Phase II of the Children's Museum, and a motion to <br />award the contract to Kearney and Associates. <br /> <br /> a. Ordinance to appropriate $120,000 for design and <br />fabrication of exhibits for Phase II of the Children's <br />Museum. <br /> <br />b. Motion to award a contract to Kearney and Associates. <br /> <br /> "Funds are included in the 1996-2001 Capital Improvement <br />Plan for the design of the second phase of the Children's <br />Museum of Virginia. In order to proceed with this project, <br />it Ks necessary to award a contract for the design and <br />fabrication of the exhibit portion of the project. <br /> <br /> The Director of Public Works recommends that a contract <br />be awarded to the firm of Kearney and Associates of Lorton, <br />Virginia, the firm that completed the exhibits for the first <br />phase. It is also recommended that funds be appropriated at <br />this time in the amount of $120,000 for the exhibit design. <br />Funds for the actual exhibit fabrication will be appropriated <br />at the completion of the design phase, when the cost of the <br />exhibits can be determined. <br /> <br /> I concur with the Director of Public Works and, with <br />your approval of this item, the remaining balance of bonds <br />authorized, but not yet appropriated, will be $2,276,410." <br /> <br /> <br />
