One half of this.amount for operatic~ of the. remaining six m~nths of the
yeb~ wiltbe appreximately-$2,240.00. ~4r. OhanS_ler Harper, the golf pr~fess:ional.who has oper-
ated t~kis course for four years, has consented to remain at ~he salary mentionsd~ in ~e i budget,
with the understanding that he will have the concession, privileges, ~ich is usual at practi -
cally all golf courses. In oonsld~eration of ~e salary paid him, Mr. Harper will also assist
the Superintendent Of Parks as greenskeeper for this coumse.
Part of ~Jae loss of $1,275.?1, which the~Oity sustained during the past
year of operation of this =~olf course, was_occasioned by the fac~ that the equipment was ~nef-
fielently handled. The grass on this course was cut by the equipment which we have at the City
Park, and which,~ several times a week, had to be loaded on a truck by several men and hauled
back and forth between thee City Park and Glenshea!lsh. Outside of the cost of ~hauling this
heavy machinery back and forth, it disru~ted the work of a crew of men and a truck engaged on
~ k in the City. Furthermore, I am advised that, as a consequence, neither course Ems kept ln~
o~r~ ~lo~i=~ shade. In order to keep up both tAe City Parkand the Glensheallah golf cour-ses]
and meet the above budget, we will need $1,5OO., to purchase proper equipment. Th_s equipment
will not reoresent a very large annual burden, inasmuch as the present equipment at the City
Park has no% been in operation eight years and still has some good life in it.
In view of the above, I respectfully recommend that an appropriation of
$2,240.00 be made for the operation and maintenance of the Glensheallah golf course, for the
balance of our fiscal year, and that an additional appropriation of $1,500. OO be made for the
purchase of proper equipment."
