T. A. Russell, Chairman of the local U.S.Oo Committee, and a later confer- <br />ence with Mr. R.L. Johnston, Secretary of th~ Portsmouth Y.M.O.Ao, and Mr.D.O. Shumaker, rep- <br />resentative of the U.S.O. in Portsmouth, the following tentative agreement for the use of the <br />Cfty Auditorium as a temporary service unit as submI~ted for approval: <br /> <br />1. That the entire City Auditorium and adjoining rooms on the top <br /> f!oor~ together with the rooms on the second floor of the west <br /> end of the building~ be rented to t~e Amy and Navy Division <br /> Y.M.C.A~~, for their exclusive use ~s a club for service men. <br /> For its u~e the City of Portsmouth is to receive a rental of <br /> $100.OO per month, beginning September 1st, 1941 and in return <br /> the City of Portsmouth is to provide light, heat and water. <br />2. The U.S.O. is to have oermission to install four showers in the <br /> present second floor t~ilet room or in the room above it~ sub <br /> jest to the approval of the City ~ngineer. <br />3- ~ermission is given to erect screens of oly board or olaster <br /> board to divide the large hall into: (1)- a smaller b~l; (2) a <br /> gsmes room mad bar; (3) a lounge and reading room. <br />4. Permission is given for the installation of telephones and out- <br /> lets for floor lamps~ radio~ <br />5- ~nirty days' notice will be requir~ on ~ ther side for the ter- <br /> mination o f this agreement. <br /> 6. All of the present equipment of that' portion of the auditorium <br /> building designated is~to be made avail8~le for use by the <br /> !easero~ The cost of ad~ti~ional furnishings and remodeling is <br /> to be borne by the Army $~d Navy Division <br /> 7.
