<br />lice Station to take care of the shore patrol, Police Justices, a nd to provide adequate space
<br />for recreational room for the officers.
<br /> Lieut. Bmrke Hewitt, Public Relations Officer of the Local Zard,
<br />has advised me that assistance'will be available for the shore patrol portion~ and in order to
<br />have space to write warrants and await turns en dmty, we should provide adequate methods to do

<br /> Motion of Mr. Fox to concur in the Manager's recommendation was adopted.

<br /> &th - "The boiler at the 0ity Jail has completely deteriorated and it is
<br />necessary that we have a replacement immediately. A new boiler installation will ~+
<br />matety $1,200.00~ for which we have no appropriat~on at this time. .I am therefore requesting an
<br />appropriation to cover same.~
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins~to place an appropriation of $1,200. for said pur-
<br />pose on its first read~ng, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 7th - #I am interested ih using the month of September as another Clean-
<br />Up period for the City o f Portsmouth and trust you will empower me to have this put into force
<br />with the same privileges granted the citizens for free lime and other cleaners during the spring
<br />campaign."

<br /> I appreciate your concern over the inadvertent item in the
<br />newspaper that you had resigned from the ~lre Department, ~as this was entirely erroneous.
<br /> The Oity, some time ago, passed an ordinance which~provided
<br />that any city employee who was called orvmltuneered to the armed forces of our country, would
<br />retain his status in the depar~men~ he left, and his position would be held open when he return-
<br />ed to duty.

<br />America, acting through the FederalWorksAdministrator, in which the City of Portsmouth agrees
<br />in consideration of One Dollar to cause t~e owners to convey or to permit the United ~tates to
<br />condemn for a site for a p~olic health building t~he following described land: That certain lot
<br />o~ land, situate in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, and bounded and described as follows,
<br />wit:

<br /> of Portsmouth, State of Virginia, and bounded and described
<br /> as follows: Beginning at the southeast intersection of Lon-
<br /> don and Green Sts.;'running thence with south line of said

<br /> Upon motion of Mr. Hutchins duly recorded the stipulation was ap-
<br />proved, and the proper officers of the 0ity were directed to execute the same, and the City Man-
<br />ager was instructed to deliver i~ to the Federal Works Agency Administrator as soon as he de -
<br />termines that the public health building is to be constructed.
