This st~udpipe was examined by their represen- <br />tative and they expedt to open bids on August 2~th for the purchase, removal and erection in <br />Arlington County° <br /> The Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Company wishes to bid on this~Job and de <br />sires a letter from the City of Portsmouth s rating that this standpipe is for sale. The price <br />is $10,0OO.O0 ~as is and where is", and includes one 20" valve,. If yow so desire you may state <br />in the letter that the sale is subject to approval of the Portsmouth City Council. <br /> This standpipe is t,hirty ~30) feet~in diameter~ one hundred (100) feet high <br />and has a capacity of 530~O00 gallons. It was erected about 1895 and was aporaised for le~s <br />than fifteen thousand dollars in 1918. <br /> I recommend that this offer be accepted as this standpipe is too low for the <br />pressures we maintain. It needs cleaning ~ud painting inside and I <br />cost of maintaining it is Justified. I am certain that the offer of $10,OO0.
