Gray, Patrolmen i n the police Department for a probation- <br />ary period of four months, subject to qualifying under the Civil Service regulations." <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> !tth - "I have been advised by George Van Leeuwen that Trink!e and Dobyns, <br />Contraczors, have submitted a bid in the amount of $19,000.00, plus a contingent fund of <br />$2,000.00 for the left wing to be constructed on the Portsmouth Fire Station, known as pro Jec~ <br />VA 44-143. <br /> C.L. Vickers, Regional Director, Federal Works Agency, has pre - <br />viously agreed to assist in constructing this wing for the City on the same ratio as the rest <br />of the project, and I would appreciate your adopting the two attached resolutions." <br /> <br />R~E S O L U T I 0 N - <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, the Federal Works Agency, an agentof <br />the United Sta~es~ Government of America, has allotted to the <br />City of Portsmouth, under Project VA 44-!43, funds for the <br />construction o f a fire statign and certain necessary fire <br />equipment, and <br /> WHEREAS, this~ project has been constructed for <br />the welfare of the people as s necessity, and <br /> WHEREAS, for efficiency, economy and the impera- <br /> tive nature of the project, it is desirable to add this wing <br /> to the building, <br /> THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it will construct'this wing <br />on the same basis as the rest of the project, the total cost <br />of the wing no~ to exceed'$21,O00." <br /> <br />Resolution - <br /> "WHEREAS, the Federal Government, through its agent, <br /> the Federal Works Agency, has caused to be constructed in the <br /> City a fire s~ation under Project VA 44-143, and <br /> WHEREAS, it is necessary to construct an additional <br /> wing for this project to house certain equipmen~ and supplies, <br /> THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the contractor be granted an <br /> extension of time of [~irty days, or to ~proximately April 15th, <br /> 1945." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. ~eiseman, the said resolutions were adopged and by the <br /> <br />following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Fox, Grimes, Howard, Hutchins, Lawrence, Sturtevant, <br /> Warren, Weiseman, Wilson <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />1943, <br /> <br /> 12th - "Pursuant to a resolution adopted by the Octroi! on November 9th, <br />bids were advertised in the Portsmouth Star on Decembe~ lOth and 12th, at 12:00 noon. <br /> The bids, which were opened on December lSth, were as follows: <br /> Portsmouth Baseball Corporation - $2,500.00 per year <br /> C.
