January 22nd~ 1946. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Howard to appoint a standing committee to work with <br />the Mayor and City Manager to keeo alert on such matters,with power to act, WaS a~ol~ed. <br /> <br /> 15th - MI am in receipt of the following.telegram from Congressman <br />Ralph Daughton, relative to the reduction of work at the Navy Yard: <br /> <br /> 'Through transfer of funds in amount of million and <br />a half by the Navy Department officials the present <br /> force of the Yard will not be disturbed for this quar- <br /> ter. This gives us ample time within which tm work <br /> for additional funds. Glad to see you at your convenience.' <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 16th - "In July, 1955, you Authorized me to ~mplete an alarm system <br />for the Jail, ~Tt~ch provided for telephones, emergency alarm for each floor of the Jail, Jail* <br />or's call bells, hold-up alarms, and other alarm signals. <br /> No appropriation was made at the time, but ths work has been <br />completed and approved by the City Electrician at a cost of $581.76. An appropriation of this <br />amount is necessary.~ <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman to appropriate $581.76 for said purpose, was <br />ad~pted, and by th~ follQwing vote: <br /> <br /> yes. Hill & Ccmpany~ hay& written a letter with <br />reference to an adjustment of personal property and real estate tickets, dating back to 192]. <br /> The items are uncollectable either by law or good will, and <br />in pursuance of better business practices, it appears that the necessary adjustments, as rec- <br />ommended by the auditors, should be made." <br /> <br />Inclosure <br /> <br />of the City Collector, <br />presented herewith, as <br /> <br /> "Pursuan~ to engagement, we have listed the tax tickets in the office <br />covering real estate and personal property assessments, which lists are <br />follows: <br /> <br />Real Estate: <br /> Years 1923 thru 19~ in <br /> 1923 in the aggregate. <br /> <br />detail and the years prior to <br /> <br />Personal Proper~y: <br /> Years 1935 thru 1944 in <br /> 1935 in the aggregate. <br /> <br />detail and the years prior to <br /> <br /> The lis~ings of the real estate ticksts totaled the sum of $380,468.2~ <br />a~ at November 20~ 19~5, which lists are in excess of the control account in the sum of <br />$5, 31.57. <br /> The listings of the personal property tickets totaled the sum of <br />$175,432.79 as at November 20th, 19~5, which lists are in excess of the control account in <br />the sum of $15,1~3.6~. <br /> Both classes of tickets were in excess of the control accounts in <br />the sum of $20~575.26, which amount~ compares favorably with the su~ of $20,~2.~8. ..... the tickets <br />were in excess of the control according to our listings as at January l, 19~5. <br /> Attached hereto are Exhibit A , of the real estate tick, ts in the sum <br />of $3~,188.30, and Exhibit B, of the personal prcperty tickets in the sum of $76~970.$5, which <br />amounts should be written off and the controls adjusted accordingly by creditinE the control <br />accounts and debiting the Reserve for taxes, which accouat aow has a balance of ~269,701.89 <br />therein. <br /> We would recommend that the Council authorize the adjustment of the <br />Tax accounts to conform to the figures aseerta~ined by u~ as the result of our listings. <br /> Upon such authorization we will make the necessary entries upon the <br />books of the City. <br /> Respectfully submitted, ~ <br /> <br />Fred B. Hill, Certified Public Accountant.'~ <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Warren that real estate tax for 1922 nnd prior, amount- <br />ing to $34,188.30 and personal property ~ax for 193~ and prior, amounting to $76,97~.45, be <br />written off, crediting control and debiting reserve, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 18th - "With ~he great amount of sewer construction in <br />believe that certain streets made one-way will expedite traffic as well as make <br />more safe. I am therefore recommending the followi~ ordinance: <br /> <br />our City, we <br />conditions <br /> <br /> 'AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING QUEEN STREET, BETWEEN <br />'$ATER AND GODWIN STREETS AS A ONE-WAY STREET EAST, <br />FOR THE PASSAGE OF VEHICLES, WITH PARKING ON THE <br />SOUTH SIDE ONLY AND DESIGNATING KING STREET BETWEEN <br />WATER AND GODWIN STREETS, AS A ONE-WAY STREET WEST <br />FOR THE PASSAGE OF VEHICLES, WITH PARKING ON THE <br />NORTH SIDE ONLY, AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR ~HE <br />-VIOLATION THEREOF." <br /> <br /> <br />
