However, I will keept <br />you informed as to progress.~ <br /> <br /> On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 8th - "Will you please place the following ordinance on its first read- <br /> <br />ing: <br /> <br /> '~N ORDINANOE IMPOSING AND COLLECTING TAXES ON REAL <br />ESTATE, TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY ANDMACHINERY, WITHIN <br />THE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, FOR THE <br />PURPOSE OF RAISING REVENUE FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE GOVERN- <br />MENT AND THE PUBLI0 FREE SOHOOLS AND TO PAY INTEREST and <br />SINKING FUND ON THE PUBLIC DEBT-FOR THE YEAR BEGINNING <br />JANUARY 1st, 19~6.TM <br /> <br />adopted. <br /> <br />Notion of Mr. Lawrence to place said ordinance on its first reading,was <br /> <br /> 9th - '~The attached agreement between the Seaboard Air Line and the City <br />of Portsmouth, relative to the use of certain land near the intersection of Griffin and Pine <br />Streets, has been approved by the City Attorney and I would appreciate authority to execute <br />ths agreement for the use of the land.~ <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Weiseman, said agreement was adopted. <br /> <br /> lOth - "I am in receipt of a letter from Phillip D. Freeman, Consulting <br />Engineer, requesting an extension of thirty days on the preparation of plans~ and specifica- <br />tions for Gander Creek Storm Sewer Improvements, known as Project VA 4~-P-8, for which the <br />Federal Government has advanced us Engineering funds. - <br /> His request seems reasonable and I am recommending that the time <br />be extended thirty days for the completion of the work. Will you please adopt the attached <br />resolution?" <br /> <br />Resolution - <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, Phillip D. Freeman, Consulting Engineer on our Project <br />VA 44-P-8, Gander Creek Storm Sewer Improvements, was to have completed his plans and specif~ <br />cations by February 24th, 1946, <br /> WHEREAS, due to extremely inclement weather, which made outside <br />work almost impossible and the said request appears to be reasonable, <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by ~he Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, that the said Phillip D. Freeman be granted an extension of thirty days for the <br />collection of plans and specifications." <br /> <br />On motion, said resolution was adopted. <br /> <br /> llth ~Frederick B. Hill, Certified Public Accountant, has completed <br />his audit of past due real estate and personal property taxes, which you have authorized him <br />to remove from the records. <br /> Since the work is now ~mplete, I am in receipt of the attached <br />statement from Mr. Hill. It will necessitate an appropriation of this amount to be charged <br />against the annexation cost." <br /> <br />St at em ent <br /> <br /> "We are delivering to the City Collector our lists (comprising a large <br />amount of detail) of the uncollected real estate and personal property taxes as explained in <br />our letter of recent date.
