Bergeron that the recommendations of the Street Planning
Cow~ttee be approved and forwarded to the City Council, was adopted.

~Lv. Harry Alexander of Hat!and Bartholomew a.ld Associates presented a
new Zoning Ordinance to tak.e place of the temporary one now in effect. ~r. Alexander suggest-
ed that a comr~ittee be appoznted to study, the new Ordinance before it was presented to the
City Council.
On motion ~djou~nedo"

Eotion of ~r. Henderson to continue on table uutil next meeting, was

adopted.

The f ollowi_ug commu~ications from the City L~anager were read:

1st "At ou~ la~.t meeting you referred back t o me my recommendation
concerning school improvements which was in turn furwarded to the Superintendent of Schools~
~r.H.i. ~t.
I would like to enter for the records, ~Sv. Without seeming presumptions, we can
honestly say that Famous windows are ~ne outstanding ones in Ports-
mouth. We know ofmany people from neighboring to~s who c oma to
Portsmouth exclusively to see Famous windows. There is no doubt that
making the windows m~e easily visible would add. to Portsmouth's
prestige.
The Famous has long devoted itself to furthering Portsmouth's
business interests. ( A single specific example is the fact that the
Famous is the only Portsmouth shop advertising in the f~l rum sec-
tion of the Norfolk newspapers ina fruitful effort to bring people
from surrounding areas to Portsmouth to shop).
We appeal to the City Council to give its attention to helping us
to promote Portsmouth. Eay we be advised af your action in this
matter?
Yours very tr~ty~

The Famous - by R. RivinM

Motion 1of ~. Weiseman t ~ refer to the City Manage~ for investigation
and report, was adopted.

.3rd - "~%v. La~ence made a motion at ou~ last ~ouncil meeting,
December ~Oth, znst~ucting the ~anager to scrutinize carefully all assessments made in
~ud i have already started to carry out yo~ur instructions.
Obviously, it will take several months ~o cc~plete this work,
b~t every effort will be made to fully carry out your instructions."

0n motion ordered filed.
