<br />~ar Housing at a recent meeting failed to recommend that veterans be
<br />permitted to ptwchase and locate the houses in the City of Portsmouth,

<br />WHEREAS, this Committee recormmended only that 500 houses at Alexander
<br />Park be improved and retained on t he present site for war veterans~and
<br />V~EAS, Portsmouth Post No. 39 of the American Legion in an open
<br />meeting voted unanimously to request the City Council t o over-ride the
<br />housing disposal committee in that this cormuittee offered practically
<br />no relief to the veteran but regimented and isolated housing, and
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council is not bound by the housing disposal commit-
<br />tee's recommendation, and,
<br />~REAS, the disposal committee is an advisory body without ~ t~ority,
<br />therefore,
<br />EE IT ~SOBf ED that the Portsmouth City Council advise the regional
<br />office of the Federal Public Housing Authority that it ~s no objection
<br />to Portsmouth ~ar Veterans purchasing Alexander Park homes amd locating
<br />them in the City of Portsmouth,
<br />BE IT F~RTHER RES0~fED, t hat immediate action be ts~en on this resolu-
<br />tion in order that veters~us may obtain some of the houses before all
<br />save disposed of.

<br />distinguish between two different times of day, and,
<br />~WHEREAS, all railroads and interstate bus companies operate on
<br />Eastern Standard time, and,
<br />V~REAS, people coming into our City from other sections not having
<br />d~-light saving time becomes confused,~ either arriging late or early
<br />to transact business, ~nd,
<br />V~qEREAS, the major portion of the cities on'the E~stern Seaboard have
<br />not seen fit to adopt Day-Y~ight Saving Time, and
<br />TB_~REFORE BE IT RES0~VED, that Portsmouth Post No. ~, the .~merican
<br />Legion, in its regula~ meeting on March ~, 1~9, went-on record to
<br />appear before the Council of the City of Portsmouth in regular meet-
<br />mng, sad ask them to oppose Day Light Saving Ti_~e unless it becomes

<br />sewerage would be advantageous, since this is one of the few areas in the City not sewered.
<br />One full street and part of another need surface-treatment and sidewalks cm~ a $0/80 basis
<br />should be constructed also.
<br /> Since the drainage is adequate and curb a~ud guttering could b e deferred
<br />the Con~ttee believes that sewerage, sidewalks ~ud streets should be considered for improve-'
