Notion of Nr. Howard to place~on its first reading an appropriation <br />of $2,900.00 for said pur~pose, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 18th - "The Norfolk Cotu~ty-Portsmoutk Veterans, Housing Coz%ooration <br />is moving some Alexander Park houses into the City~ <br /> U ~' <br /> rider Section~17' Of Our Plumbing regulations adopted June <br />17th, 1920. we find "vertical so.Il oipes shall not be less than four inches in diameter~. The <br />Alexander ~ark hbuses are three znc~es.. <br /> It appea~s~ that the general practice of other cities in the <br />~tate is to allow these three inch pipes but at a conference with the Plumbing Inspectors of <br />Norfolk County .and Portsmouth, it was agreed that a fo~ inch stack would be necessary. Sturtevant that we place on-its first reading an ap- <br />proprlation of $~,~0.00 for said purpose, was adopted. <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> ~At a meeting of the Portsmouth-Nerfo!k County Committee for the <br />Disposition of Public War Housing on July 14th, the following resolution was adopted: <br /> <br /> ¥~iREAS, the original report of the Portsmouth - Norfolk <br />Cott~ty Committee for the Disposition of Public War Housing, <br />issued July, 19~, reconnuended the total disposition of <br />~lexander Park as not being required as a pa~t of the per - <br />manent pest war housing supply of the area, at the same time <br />asking that consideration be given a pl~ which would ~esult <br />in a low density effect, comparable to that of a small house <br />deve~opment;~and <br /> WEERF~S, by reason o f the unexpected maintenance of a high <br />population figure in the area, complicated further by the <br />veterans' housing problem; and <br /> ~HER~AS, it now appears that all o f the approximately~000 <br />units remaining in active status in Alexander Park will be <br />required as a part of the per~nanent post-~war housing supply <br />of the~area~ <br /> BE iT EE~0LVED,~ that the approximately 2000 ttuits remaining <br />in Alexander Park in active status, after existing connuitments <br />are met, be classified as "permammnt units in the present <br />project area", and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this action i s contingent upon <br />the meeting of the following conditions: <br /> It is recognized that the units are not now located <br /> in a way v~michwould be most desirable from a per - <br /> manent point of vt~Sw. <br /> 2. Referring to the Corm~ittee's o~iginal recommendation, <br /> the development would be most desirable if sufficient <br /> ground were provided to assure a desirable single <br /> small-he,se character ~nd the houses zmproved. The <br /> perm. anent site-plan i~ to b e acceptable to the Norfolk <br /> Co'~ty Board of Supervisors~ <br /> ~. Further, if improvements by the FPHA are not feasible, <br /> it is ~econ~ended that the project be s~ld as a whole <br /> to a purchaser who will agree to improve the exteriors <br /> of the houses, particularly as regards their present <br /> temporamy fuundations~ in accordance with plan? approved <br /> by the Norfolk County Boa~d of Supervisors, prmo~ to rheim <br /> sale te individuals, and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the action z~ecommended herein <br /> shall not obstruct or affect in any way the proposal of the <br /> Po~tsmoutk Redevelopment and Housing Authority to adapt approx- <br /> <br /> <br />
