These houses were transferred <br />from the Alexande~ Park area and a portion Of the barrgcks from the Norfolk Navy Yard. They <br />have all been committed to the use of colored veterans and you have previously madekppropria- <br />tion for sewer core-action to other houses on a comparable ~ asis. <br /> If an appropriation of ~9,900.00 is made, it must be earmark- <br />ed that improvement bonds will be issued b afore the end of the year in order that the general <br />£~u~ds might be repaid from the bond issue." <br /> <br />priate <br /> <br />Attached - <br /> <br />this amount <br /> <br /> "In order to provide sewers for all the houses that have been con- <br /> structed in North Truxton ~d West Truxton, it will require ~72 lin~ <br /> feet of additional 8~ sewer lines with appurtenances. <br /> The cost for ~his additional will be as follows~ <br /> ~72 lin. ft. 8" T.C. sewer including appurtenances, <br /> ~ 2.25 $9,8~7.00 <br /> If this w~k is to be done the Council will have to appro <br />to cover the cost." <br /> <br /> On motion, an appropriation of $9,900°00 fo~ said purpose, was <br />placed on its first reading, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Fox, B~rcls~, Grimes, Henderson, <br /> ~arren, Weiseman, ~i!son <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Howard, Sturtevant, <br /> <br />~th - "The City of Portsmouth is vastly interested in the comple- <br />tion of the Churchland Bridge, an~ I wrote to t~e Department of Hmghways on August 28th, wmth <br />reference to ~hen they would start on th? bridge'~ . . <br /> I am zn receipt of the attached letter which i would lmke to <br />ente~ into the records." <br /> <br />Attached - <br /> <br />"At the time you aud your committee were ih this office discussing <br />needs of Portsmouth~ it was thought that the plans for the Church- <br />land Bridge were p~actically complete. <br /> Since estimating on the cost, for ~he plans available at that <br />time, it has been found that we do~ not have anywhere near enough <br />money allocaSed to build the bridge on those plans. <br /> This has necessitated further stu~dies to detez~aine v~nat economies <br />c~ be e£fec~ed in the d esigno f t~e bridge, and this will of nec- <br />essity defer the date when the bridge can actually be put under <br />construction. <br /> I will keep you advised of the developments. <br /> Sincerely, <br /> <br /> C.
