"The Robert E. Lee School P.T.A. at its September meeting, voted to
request the Portsmouth City COUncil to lay a cement sidewalk on the Camden Avenue side of the
building to correspond w itht he one on the Atlanta Avenue side. The distance is 44 yards, para~
llel with Camden and 12 yards to the school from the proposed walk.
The reason for this request is to provide a cement walk to keep the ~
children out of the mud and to eliminate a considerable ~nouut of dirt being carried into the
building. Any consideration given this request, will b e appreciated."

~I have consulted the Virginia E!ectric~.and Power Company in
regard to improving the white way lighting on Middle Street, between Queen and South Sts., as
mentioned ~o you by Mayor Fox.
There are now eleven w~hite way lights (part of the 180 which
are free to the City) on Middle St. In order to improve this lighting, it was thought that ad-
ditional lighting fixtures like or similar to those now used might be added. By so doing, the
present li~ohts would remain free to~the City.
It appears, according to the Power Company, that additional
lighting fixtures, like or similar to those~ in use, would be extremely difficult or impossible
to obtain. The present lighting fixtures were installed more th~u twenty years ago aud are now
considered obsolete.
