Coker - None <br /> <br />The following was read: <br /> <br /> "ABSTRACT OF VOTES CAST at an UnoffiCial Election held in the City of <br />Port~mouth, State of Virginia~ on the ~nd day of ~ovember, 1948, to dete_~nine the question the <br />q~e~s~u, "Shall the Council of the City of Portsmouth adopt an ordinance providing forDay <br />Light Saving Time, if the adjacent cormnunities adopt such time?~ <br /> <br />For, were cast ~nirty two Hundred Fo~rteen (8~14) V~tes <br /> <br />Against, were cast FoUrtThousand Ninety (4090) Votes <br /> <br />Cl~rk~s Office of the Court of hustings, for <br /> the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br /> No,ember 4th, 1948. <br /> <br /> We, the undersigned Comm~sszoners of the Unofficial Election held in <br />the City of Portsmouth on the ~nd day of November, 1948, do certify that the foregoi_~ug'is a <br />true abstract of the votes east at said election and do therefore determine and declare that <br />the highest number of votes cast at said election were cast ~Against Day Light Saving~. <br /> <br />J. Bitisoly stated that the City is using land on Washington Btreet <br />and Green Street~ owned by the Seaboard Air Line Railway, for playground purposes, and expres- <br />sed the opir~on that this is an opportune time to purchase this land; his motion for the Cindy <br />Manager to contact the Seaboard Air Line Railway in reference to same, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Houghton stated that he brought up the question of the manuer of <br />issuing business licenses, about eight months ago. <br /> <br /> The Chair stated that licenses were issued May 1st, 1948 and had <br />about six months to run. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />City Clerk. <br /> <br /> <br />
