The plaintiff in the suit has of- <br />feted to settle the claim for Five Hundred Dollars which she claims for medical and hospital <br />attention and time lost as a practical nurse. She suffered a broken bone in her wrist: end <br />claims she is still unable to ~se her hand. The other defendant has agreed to pay Two H~dre <br />and Fifty Dollars~ provided the City will pay an equal amount. ~I recommend the payment of <br />Htmdred and Fifty Dollars in settlement of the City's liability." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman to appropriate $2~O.00 for said purpose~ was <br />adopted~ and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes - Duke~ Bilisoly~ Grimes~ Howard~ Houghton~ Smith~ <br /> Sturtevant~ Warren~ Wemseman~ Wilson <br />Nays - None <br /> <br /> An ~oproprmatmon of $~5l+.~0 to pay hospital bill for medically indi- <br />gent~ olaced on its first reading at last meeting~ was taken uo. <br /> <br />adopted. <br /> <br />Motion of M~. Houghton to appropriate $~y51+.~0 for said purpose~ ~s <br /> <br />~he following petition was read: <br /> <br /> "We~ the undersigned~ who ooerate businesses in the 3200 block of High <br /> Street~ Portsmouth~ Va.~ respectfully request that an opening be made in the isla~d~ w~ich is <br /> in the center of High St.~ to allow turning and crossing of vehicles in this are~. <br /> This island runs from the beginning of the 3200 block into the 3400 <br /> block~ a distance of ~pproximately 600 feet~ without an opening. This necessitates our patron <br /> driving this distance to possibly make a turn or cross over. We~find that this inconvenience <br /> does affect our business adversely.
