This is submitted for your consideration." <br /> <br /> Attached - <br /> "At the direction of the Bi-Centennial Committee and by unanimous approval from that body, <br />the undersigned was directed to comammicate with you and state that certain names have been approved unanimously <br />by the General Committee, to act as an executive Committee to ~conduct and direct the affairs of the great cel- <br />ebration to be held in 1952. <br /> The reasoning of the General Committee was that appointment of such committee will greatly <br />facilitate and simplify work in connection with an adequate celebration next year. There is ~also attached a letter from the Director of Pablic Sea,ice of the Polygon Club concerning the <br />same matter." <br /> <br /> Notion of Mr. Houghton to refer to the City Manager, City Attorney,Director of Public <br />Health and Superintendent of Water Department, was adopted. <br /> <br /> llth - "I submit herewith a resolution concerning the application to the State Board of <br />Education for S.chool constrmction funds and I recommend its adoption." <br /> <br />Resolution - <br /> <br />"Resolved that application of the City School Board of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, to the State Board of Education <br />for$~86,35~.32 from the School Constr~¢tion Fund is hereby <br />approved. The Council of said City has-orwttl provide suffi- <br />cient funds through cash appropriations and/or levy to complete <br />this project. If the School Board has sufficient f~ads on hand <br />to complete the prcject, permission is herabygranted for the <br />use of said funds for the purpose designated in the application." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Weiseman, the resolution was adopted. <br /> <br />12th- "I recommend that the following resolution be adopted: <br /> <br />'Whereas, the Portsmouth School Board is filing an application with the <br />Ubited States of America for am advance to provide for the advance plato - <br />ning of non-Federal public works under %he" terms of Public Law 352, Slst <br />Congress of the Uni~Md' State~, approved October 13, 19~9 for funds to be <br />used for making plans fo~ a new High School Building to be located within <br />the City limits~of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, and <br /> Whereas, that if such an advance be made the City of Portsmouth, Virg4n~a <br />shall provide or make necessary arrangements to provide such funds in ad- <br />dition to the advance as may be req,,fwed to defray the cost of such action <br />preliminary to the construction of the public work, and <br /> Whereas, the City Council of the City of Portsmouth,Virginia is the taxing <br />authority for raising revenue for the operation of said City, <br /> THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />that the Coumcil concur in the action of the School Board.in filing said ap - <br />plication' <br /> <br />On motion of Nr.
