Barclay, City <br />Attorney. <br /> <br />Minutes of regular meeting of January 23rd, 1951 and called meeting of January 30th,1951 <br /> <br />The follc~dng recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission was read: <br /> <br /> · The Plauning and Zoning Commission at the regular meeting held February 1, 1951, receiv- <br />ed a request from Lee B. Duke and Thomas E. Londenslager, to close Warwick St. at the west end, opposite $9 and <br />#lO, block ~7, as s~own on the map of River Park. A copy of the l~etter received an~ a plat showing the loca- <br />tion is ~here~th attached. <br /> ~After due consideration, the Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending to the Coun- <br />cil that Mr. Duke and Mr. Londonslager be allowed to close Warwick St. opposite their property and that they be <br />allowed the free. use thereof, to inclose, landscape, and to beautify, but that the City shall retain title for <br />the land for future extension of street or for utilities expansion, if and when the necessity may arise. <br /> The ~Commission respectfully suggests that this matter be turned over to the City At- <br />torney to draw up the proper agreement in order that the interests of all parties concerned will be protected." <br />Mo~ion of ~r. Howard to concur in the recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission, was adopted. <br /> The following reports from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - "The Board of Supervisors of Norfolk County has amended its resolution to offer <br />the 'Council of the City of Portsmouth the sum of $175.e0 per month for the space in the Cou~t House Building <br />now occupied by the City Coltecto~, ~t.o be effective as of February 1st, 1951, for such time as the City does not <br />require for its own use. I r~co~e~d that the City accept the offer." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Sturtevant to concur in the reco~endation of the City Manager was adopted <br /> <br /> 2nd - "I am submitting herewith a letter from the Virginia Transit Company concerning <br /> the purchase of additional buses." <br /> <br /> AttaChed - "This is to advise that today we have placed an order with the GNC Truck and Coach Divi- <br /> sion, Pontiac, Michigan, for ten 31-passenger G~ co~ches at a price of $9,380.00 each, or $93,800,00 fer the ten <br /> coaches. These buses will be equipped with hydromatic drive and other improvements, and will be the same as the <br /> five coaches delivered in Portsmouth during the latter part of September, 1950. <br />'/ ~ A 'l. ~ As to the delivery date of these buses~ the~f~actory promdses .delivery the latter part <br /> o~ prm , however, due to unse%~led delivery the latter part of April;~ however, due to unsettled wori~ and econo- <br /> mic conditions, the exact delivery date is unknown at this time. I wish to assure you that we will k~ep in con - <br /> starer touch with the factory with the view of getting them delivered at the earliest possible amount." <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br />fers to Navy Yard buses <br /> Attached - <br /> <br />3rd - "I submit herewith a letter from the. Virginia Transit Company co~$~rniug trans- <br />at Fourth Street and Gosp~rt Road." <br /> <br />"The Portsmouth City Council requested the Portsmouth Tr~usit Company to review <br /> the possibilities ef allew~_~g transfers to Navy Yard buses at Ath ~t. and Gosport <br /> Road. After a resurvey of transfer regulations, it has been decided to honor trans- <br /> fers on ~uses going into the Navy Yard, as well as buses coming from the Navy Yard <br /> at the Fourth St. Gate, effective February 19th, 1951. In the case of patrons com- <br />ing from the Navy Yard in the afternoon rdsh, it may be imp~ssible for all transfer- <br /> ring passengers to secure transportation for this short distance; however, we feel <br /> that it is desirable to grant this privilege. Transfers will be accepted at ~th & <br /> Madison Sis. by buses entering the Navy Y~rd from all lines eXcepting the Pinnere <br /> Point- P~rt Norfotl~ ~ ~th Gate line. B~ses coming from the Navy Yard will issue <br /> Navy Yard transfers-. These transfers will be accepted by all lines passing the <br /> Fourth St. Gate excepting the Port Norfolk-Pinners Point line. <br /> It was also requested that we advance the leaving time of the first bus leaving <br />South Street ~u the morning in order to allow certain riders to m~ke ferry connec - <br />tions. This latter request is ~eing f~l filled by having the first trip leave South <br />Street five minutes earlier, Mondays through ~turdays, effective Monday, February <br />19th, 1951." <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br />Passenger Transportation <br /> <br />4th - "I am submitting herewith an amendment to ,An Ordinance to Regulate Motor Bus <br />in the City of Portsmouth' and I recommend that it be placed on its first reading." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Grimes to. place the following ordinauce on its first reading was adopted: <br /> <br />,AN O~DI~ANCE TO A~D AND REORDAIN v. XMIBIT "~" ATTACHED TO Akq] MADE A PART THEREOF, <br />aN ORD]i~ANCE ADOPTED BY THE COUNCIL OF TH~ CIT~ OF PORTSMOUTH ON JULY 28th,1926, <br />ENTItlED ' AN ~RDINANCE TO REGULATE MOTOR BUS PASS~2~GER TRANSPORTATION IN THE CITY <br />OF PORTS~OL~fH~ AND THE AMENDMenTS THEREOF." <br /> <br /> 5th - "I submit herewith a letter from Fr~au~ C. Hanrahan,Adm~n~strator of the Kings <br />Daughters Hospital, 'requesting that the City furnish ambulance se~vlce. I do not recommend that the City furnish <br />fnll-time ambulance service.
