March 11. 1997 <br /> <br />069 <br /> <br />Planning Department's Recommendation: Approval <br />Planning Commission's Recommendation: Approval (5-0 VOTE) <br />City ManageCs Recommendation: Concur with Planning Commission <br /> <br />Summary Overview: <br /> <br />· The Olde Towne Civic League is requesting to change the name London <br /> "Boulevard" between Effingham Street and Water Street to London "Street." <br /> <br />· This would effect eighty-one (81) addresses of properties in the 100 through 700 <br /> blocks of London Boulevard. <br /> <br />· The change would reinforce the fact that London "Street" is part of Olde Towne. <br /> <br /> The Vision 2005 Plan recommends reuniting the historic core of Portsmouth with <br /> its neighborhoods. <br /> <br />· The Plan also recommends developing parking on both sides of London "Street" <br /> to give the street more of a residential setting. <br /> <br />Plannin_o Commission's Rationale: <br /> <br />· The name change ~s consistent with the recommendation of the Vision 2005 Plan. <br /> <br />· The name change would complement other actions under way in that section of <br /> London "Street." <br /> <br />· The boulevard treatment of London stops at Effingham Street and would not be <br /> extended to Water Street. <br /> <br />· The name change is strongly supported by the residents of Olde Towne. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Benn, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE NAME OF THE PORTION OF LONDON <br />BOULEVARD TO LONDON STREET." <br /> <br />Ayes: Berm, Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />97-74 - Resolution authorizing the conveyance of a portion of Hunt-Mapp <br /> Middle School property to Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing <br /> Authority for the construction of a proposed birthing facility by Maryview <br /> Medical Center. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />A resolution recommending that the City of Portsmouth convey to the Portsmouth <br />Redevelopment and Housing Authority a portion (approximately 4.61 acre.s) of <br />Hunt,Mapp Middle School property. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />The conveyed property will be sold by PRHA to Maryview Medical Center to <br />provide adequate space for the construction of Maryview's proposed birthing <br />facility. <br /> <br /> <br />
