Holley <br /> <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTION 2-479 THEREOF, <br />PERTAINING TO THE DIRECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin. Martin. Pitts, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />97 - 72 - Ordinance closing a portion of Columbia Street in the Mid-Town area. <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to close a portion of Columbia Street in the Mid-Town <br /> area. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· Closure of this street will provide additional land needed to construct a new Rite <br /> Aid store. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />Will provide new taxable property to the city tax roils, and provide a new structure <br />in an area of the City targeted for renewal and redevelopment under the 2005 <br />Plan. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to adopt the following <br />ordinance and conditions, and was adopted by the following: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING AND VACATING A PORTION OF COLUMBIA <br />STREET." <br /> <br />CONDITIONS: <br /> <br />· Developer obtaining fee simple title to the closed portiOn of the street by recorded <br /> deed, <br /> <br />· PaYment to the city of the sum of $2,500 for the closed portion of the street, and <br /> <br />Commencement of construction of a Rite-Aid Pharmacy on the adjacent site and <br />the closed portion of the street within four months of this date. Commencement <br />of construction shall be satisfied with approval of the site plan by City Staff. At <br />the time all conditions are met, the City Attorney be authorized to record the <br />Ordinance closing said street in the Clerk's Qffice of the Circuit Court of the City <br />of Portsmouth. <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />97 - 73 - Resolution changing the name of London Boulevard between Effingham <br />and Water Street to London "Street," to be effective on September 15, 1997. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to change the name London "Boulevard', between <br /> Effingham Street and Water Street to London ',Street." <br /> <br /> <br />
