cords-nee with the opinion of the Attorney General - one, to show the excess fees~ if any, which were apportion- able between the State and ~h~ City for the period Janua~ l, 1951 to June 30, 1951; md the other to show the extent of the excess of revenues over operating expenses which the clerks will have to pay_ into the City treasur as of December 31, 1951, or the amounts which the City may owe to the clerks as compensation if the revenues of their offices from July i to December 31, 19~- were not sufficient to provide the clerks with the salaries pre scribed by law. This procedure is necessary since the clerks continued to operate for the entire ~calendar year as if the section applicable to the city clerks' offices did not apply. You will specifically observe that under the section which affects the finaucial op- erations of the clerks' office~ of your City all foes of of~fices are to be paid into the city treasury and that all expenses of the offices ars to be paid from the City treasury a s are other city disbursements. For the per- iod subsequent to J~ly l, 1951, the State will no lo~er share in the excess fees of these offices, but all ex- cess fees will accrue to the City in conformity with the statutes. District Court, in the case of Jas L.Green, et al versus the City of Portsmouth, Civil Act%n, in the amount of $73.80, and reco~end that the bill be paid." - Motion of Er. Houghton to appropriate $73.~0 for said purpose, was adopted. 7th - ~For a nmmber of years, the City has had a policy of paying rental for the use of some private cars and has furnished ga~ol~_ue to the owners wJno are employees of the City who use their private c~rs for city ~arposes. ~e are at the present time furnishing ten employees of the City gasoline for their private cars for use in their work for the city. This includes a private car of Judge William H.Oast. The cost of the gasoiime for the private cars for the past year has run from $79.62 for the lowest amount to $281.~ for the highest amount used. I recommend that with the exception of the private car of Judge ~illiam H. Oast, a sum in the amount of $12.50 per month be allowed each employee of the City ~ho has been authorized te use his car im connection with his employment by the City of Portsmouth for city ~rposes. Judge Oast has a city car furnished his office for hie use in connection with h~s~of_~c~az' e' ' ~ · ~-' ,, On motion filed. ~th - "I have been advised by the City Engineer and the Co~nissioner of Eewenue that the tax maps d_n the armexed territory are on paper and~are in a very poor condition. ~I recommend-that N~. ~Mamaing be transferred from the City Garage to the City Engineer's office and assigned the duty of preparing the tax maps for the office of the City Engineer and the Co~missioner of Revenue and that the sum of $1165.00~ repr~ sending his salary, be placed on its first reading." The total amouht is $7,290.~0 of which the City and State will'be required to provide 50% of this If the State appropriates Civil Defense funds, the City' s share would be $1,822.70.
