"The undersigned taxicab owners and operators of this City respectfully request that you
bring before the Council witha view to having an ordinance passed eliminating the $5.00
charge for the badge of identification issued hy the City to each driver.
Each taxicab being operated in the City is properly marked with the name or trade name
of the owner, together with the individual telephone numbers, and in addition thereto,
has the City permit number thereon. We are experiencing difficulty in securing drivers
to obtain a permit for taxicab operation ie excessive, and most of them do not have the
£unds to secure the permit. Your conside~iion will be appreciated.
su~ ox vlrg~nla Municipalities at which time a report was made on the appli-
cation of the Chesapeake and POtomac Telephone Company of Virginia for u rate increase.
The report indicated that the COmpany had requested an increase of $4,037,000.00 and that
the State Corporation Commission granted an increase of $2,500,000.00 making a saving annually in the sum of
$1,537,000.00 to the users of telephones in the area in Virginia served by the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone
Company. It was my .understanding that a large portion of this saving was due to the fact that they allowed only
