March 8th, 1955. was owned by the Pennsulvani~ Railroad O~m~ny and not by the City of Port~meuth, tmte Plat Book Plate Accordingly since~t~e' Railroad Company will not permit the u~e of their property without a provision requiring the ret~mtien of our facilities ~nder .certain o0~ditions, it has become necessary to issue a shutdown order to the contractor, pending the selection of a new site. As discussed in our conversation on FebrUary 18, 1955, another site ha~ been selects on City owned property at the terminus of Maryland Avenue, at its inter~ection with Ba)~iewBoulevard. This site is bounde~ en the south by Bayview Boulevard, on the east by the east marginal line of Maryland Avenue extended (being the properzy line of the PennsYlvania Railroad), on the morth by the waters of the Weste'rn Branch of the Elizabeth River and west by the City of PortsmOUth. This site was selected, since its lonation and topography is similar to the Chautauqua Avenue site and the speciat length cable aud other mazerials already delivered can be readily used without ~erieusly delsying the contract. In view,of the above situation and the nrgent need for this facility, it is res- pect~ully requested that permission be granted the Navy Department to con~ruc~ our transformer s~atien on City - owned proper~y at the terminu~ of Maryland Avenue, immediately north of BayviewBoulevard, vasedou and conditions a~ set forth in the previous lea~e, referre~ te hereinab~ve.
