Changes in form and personnel of the City Government. <br /> 2. Better and mo~e parking facilities. <br /> 3. Relocation, tim3_ng and additional needs of traffic lights. <br /> 4. Establishment of underpass or over, ass on High Street at the Belt Line RailrOad. <br /> 5. Rerout~ng of runnel buses. <br /> 8. Reconsideration of the Civic Center propesal. <br /> 7. The need of additional and improved recrestionaI facilities. <br /> 8. The need of improved services of the Transit Companies. <br /> 9. Improvement and development of the Por~smoath wate~vfront. <br /> I0. Impro~emen% im policies to attract more industries to Portsmouth. <br /> ll. Improvement of library facilities. <br /> 12. Erection of additional street markets and ~ improved system of house numbering. <br /> While we h~ve considered all these suggestions carefully, the Portsmouth Junior Chamber <br />of Comme~ce feels that these only could be accomplished by Council considez~tion and action. T~erefore, we ask you <br />to take these under advisement. <br /> Now the Portsmouth Junior Chamber of Commerce decided that they would adopt one of these <br />suggestions as a pro~ect and do everything in their power to see that this was completed~ this Droject being an <br />underpass or over pass on High St. at the Belt Line Railroad Cross%rig. <br /> We, therefore, beg your support and ~elp in promoting this project in the best interests <br />of the Cit~ of Portsmouth." <br /> <br />On motion ~iled. <br /> <br /> 58-95 A - On mozion, rnles were suspended to hear from A.L.Cherry. Mr. Cherry spoke re- <br />questing that his property az ll40 South St. be eliminated from the Fire District in order that he might build an <br />addition to his present building at this location. <br /> <br />Clyde W. Cooper also spoke for this change. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hawks to ~efer to the City Mansger aud City Attorney re investigate as to <br />when this Fire DiStrict was established and when the buildin$ permits issued ~o Mr. Cherry for the present build- <br />lng were secured, and why he was not required to conform to the Fire District regulations at that time, was <br />adopted. <br /> <br />The following reports from the City Manage? were read: <br /> <br /> 58-94 - "At a previous meeting of the City Council, you r~ferred tome a petition of resi- <br />dents in the 100 block of Oregon Ave., for bard-surfacing of that block. I have personally inspected the street <br />and £~nd the surface of the block in question re he in very good condition and recommend that it be placed~ in line, <br />along ~. with other projects for surface nreatment, for the fiscal year beg%nning July 1st, 19~6." <br /> <br />On metion filed. <br /> <br /> 56-95 - "I have been advised by the Superintendent of' Public Schools that it is most de- <br />sirabl~ to determine the amount of the City's appropriation for the' operation of the Schools for the ensuing year <br />in order that the Superintendent mayenter into contracZs for teachers. It has been requested by the Superinten- <br />dent that a conference on the School Budget he held at the earliest date possible.
