september 9, 1997 <br /> <br />· It is also recommended that this contract be retained without competitive <br /> bidding or negotiation. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />It has been determined .that it would be in the City,s best interest to retain <br />Curtis Strange, Inc., as a golf consultant so as to lend his good name and <br />reputation as a professional golfer to the City's golf courses. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· The contract for Curtis Strange, Inc. is $75,000 which will be paid out of <br /> funds from the Golf Enterprise Fund and has been an anticipated cost of the <br /> overall golf redevelopment budget. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the followingvote: <br /> <br /> "A'RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THECI'I~MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A <br />CONTRACT WITH CURTIS STRANGE, INC. FOR HIS SERVICES AS A GOLF <br />CC NSULTANT FOR THE REDESIGN AND RECONSTRUCTION OF THE CITY <br />PARK AND BIDE-A-WEE GOLF COURSES. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has embarked on a project to <br />redesign and .rebuild its golf courses at City Park and Bide-A-Wee; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is deemed in the best interest of the City of Portsmouth to <br />retain the services of Curtis Strange, a professional golfer known as one of the <br />finest players in the world, known worldwide as a golf commentator for ABC <br />Sports, and a lifelong resident of the Hampton Roads area; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the association of the name of Curtis Strange with the City's <br />courses will add to their reputation as ~mong the finest in Hampton Roads. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia that the City Manager be, and he hereby is authorized to <br />enter into a contract with Curtis Strange, Inc. for the services, reputation and <br />expertise of Curtis Strange as a design consultant for the design and <br />reconstruction of City Park Golf Course and Bide-A-Wee Golf Course under <br />such terms and conditions as he shall deem appropriate and in the best <br />interest of the City of Portsmouth.~ <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia deems it appropriate and in the best interest of then City that the City <br />Manager enter into such contract without competitive bidding or negotiation. <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />97-254 - Adoption of a ResoJufion authorizing the City Ma~ta~jer te~ enter into a <br /> coat, ct width ~ C.i~ of Suffolk for lease of the Su*~ ~;-Coume. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a <br /> contract with the City of Suffolk for lease of the Suffolk Golf Course. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· Suffolk currently leases the golf course; however, that lease is due to <br /> expire. <br /> <br />· The new lease agreement will allow Portsmouth to continue its commitment <br /> of keeping our golf courses on a self-sustaining operation. <br /> <br /> <br />
