Purpose and Need: It has been determined .that it would be in the City,s best interest to retain Curtis Strange, Inc., as a golf consultant so as to lend his good name and reputation as a professional golfer to the City's golf courses. Financial Impact: · The contract for Curtis Strange, Inc. is $75,000 which will be paid out of funds from the Golf Enterprise Fund and has been an anticipated cost of the overall golf redevelopment budget. Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to adopt the following resolution, and was adopted by the followingvote: "A'RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THECI'I~MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH CURTIS STRANGE, INC. FOR HIS SERVICES AS A GOLF CC NSULTANT FOR THE REDESIGN AND RECONSTRUCTION OF THE CITY PARK AND BIDE-A-WEE GOLF COURSES. WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has embarked on a project to redesign and .rebuild its golf courses at City Park and Bide-A-Wee; and WHEREAS, it is deemed in the best interest of the City of Portsmouth to retain the services of Curtis Strange, a professional golfer known as one of the finest players in the world, known worldwide as a golf commentator for ABC Sports, and a lifelong resident of the Hampton Roads area; and WHEREAS, the association of the name of Curtis Strange with the City's courses will add to their reputation as ~mong the finest in Hampton Roads. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia that the City Manager be, and he hereby is authorized to enter into a contract with Curtis Strange, Inc. for the services, reputation and expertise of Curtis Strange as a design consultant for the design and reconstruction of City Park Golf Course and Bide-A-Wee Golf Course under such terms and conditions as he shall deem appropriate and in the best interest of the City of Portsmouth.~ BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia deems it appropriate and in the best interest of then City that the City Manager enter into such contract without competitive bidding or negotiation. Recommendation: · Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a contract with the City of Suffolk for lease of the Suffolk Golf Course. Purpose and Need: · Suffolk currently leases the golf course; however, that lease is due to expire. · The new lease agreement will allow Portsmouth to continue its commitment of keeping our golf courses on a self-sustaining operation.
