<br />GENERAL LMPROVEMENT BONDS PROVIDED IN ~nS{E ORDINANCE ADOPTED BY THE CITY
<br />COUNCIL ON NOV-EMBER 11, 1958 AND FIXING THE RATE OF INTER~ST FOR SAID BONDS"

<br />On motion of Mr. Weiseman, said ordinance was adopted and by the following vote:

<br /> 58-374 -~e following letter from Marion E. Turtle, Business Representative, Portsmouth City
<br />Employees Local Union No, 733, was read:
<br />
<br /> "Please find enclosed four ordinances that we are submitting to you for your favorable
<br />consideration to vote on and make them public law. The Local Union believes these ordinances should be made publi
<br />law and they are a benefit to the employees and the City of Portsmouth.
<br /> Thanking you for your favorable consideration on this most important matter."
<br />
<br /> "Whereas, it appears that for the benefit of the City of Portsmouth and its employees
<br />not covered by Civil Service that additional benefits should be given such employees relative to paid time off.
<br /> Now, Therefore, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, that the
<br />code of ordinances of the City of Portsmouth be added thereto provisions for miscellaneous benefits for City
<br />employees not under Civil Service in regards to reporting pay as follows.
<br /> Any employee who reports on time for regularly scheduled work and who has;not been
<br />notified to remain away from work shall either be given s mSn~imnm of four hours work at his regular rate of pay
<br />or in lieu thereof, shall receive an allowance of four hours pay at his regular rate."

<br /> "Whereas,it appears that for the behefit of the City of Portsmouth, and its employees
<br /> not covered by Civil Service that additional benefits should be given such employees relative zo paid time off.
<br /> Now Therefore be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth that the code
<br /> or ordinances of the City of Portsmouth be added thereto provisions for miscellaneous benefits for city employ-
<br /> ees not under Civil Service in regards to voting as follows.
<br /> Every city employee entitled to vote at any election on the day on which an election
<br /> shall be held wiether City, County, State or National, shall on~wi'itten demand of his department head by such
<br /> employee be given some period of three hours, or more if necessary, between the opening and closing of the polls
<br /> on said day for the purpose of enabling such person to repair to the place of voting to cast his vote and return;
<br /> and he shall not be liable to any penalty and no deduction from his usual salary or wages on account of such ab -
<br />
<br /> "Whereas, it appears that for the benefit of the City of Portsmouth and its employees
<br /> not covered by Civil Service that additional benefits should be given such employees relative to paid time off.
<br /> Now, Therefore, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth that the
<br />code of ordinances of the City of Portsmouth be added thereto provisions for miscellaneous benefits for city em -
<br />ployees not under Civil Service in ~egard to funeral leave as follows.
<br /> Any employee who has a death in his immediate family will, upon request, be granted
<br />an excused absence for such reasonable time as is needed for the purpose of attending the funeral, and not to ex -
<br />ceed three days of such absence, shall be with pay at his regular rate.
<br /> An employee's immediate family will include spouse, child, parent, parent-in-law,
<br />brother or sister."

<br /> "Whereas, it appears that for the benefit of the City of Portsmouth and its employ-
<br />ees not covered by Civil Service, that additional benefits should be given such employees relative to paid time
<br />off.
<br /> Now, Therefore Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth that the
<br />code of ordinances of the City of Portsmouth be added thereto provisions for miscellaneous benefits for city em -
<br />ployees not under Civil Service in regards to jury duty as follows:
<br /> Any employee who may be required to serve on a jury shall be granted an excused
<br />absence for such time as is needed in connection with jury duty, and the employee shall receive the difference be-
<br />tween his regular pay and the amoun~ allowed by the court for his jury service."
